Pike is hiring! We're looking for an SEO expert who has been in-house in the past and wants to make the jump to consulting. We'll teach you everything we know.
About Pike
Pike is an SEO consultancy that helps ambitious brands win in organic search. Founded by former SEO leaders from Zillow, Zapier, Figma, and Airtable, we aim to bring that kind of accountability and execution to our clients.
We are a small, senior team (only three of us so far!) that moves fast and holds a high bar for the work we ship. We take on clients where the SEO problem is genuinely interesting, and we solve it properly rather than at volume. That means our people get real ownership, real client exposure, and the room to do work they are proud of.
The Role
As an SEO Manager you will turn strategy into shipped work across our portfolio. You will conduct technical audits and see the fixes through, design and scale programmatic SEO systems, shape content and on-page direction, and communicate clearly with clients about what is happening and why.
This is a mid-level role with real independence. Client work is rarely tidy, and you will often be handed a goal and incomplete information rather than a specification. We are looking for someone who can make progress in that situation: form a point of view, prioritize sensibly, ask good questions, and move without waiting to be told the next step.
You will work alongside senior consultants who will back you up, review your thinking, and give you room to own the details.
What You'll Do
-
Technical SEO: Run audits and diagnose crawl, indexation, rendering, site architecture, internal link equity, and Core Web Vitals issues. Translate findings into a prioritized plan and work with client dev teams to get fixes shipped and verified.
-
Programmatic SEO: Design and scale template-driven page systems, from keyword and data modeling through templating, internal linking, indexation control, and ongoing quality management.
-
Content and on-page: Build data-informed briefs and own on-page optimization so published pages reflect real expertise and earn both rankings and citations.
-
AI search visibility: Own how clients show up in AI Overviews, AI Mode, and assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini. Structure content so it can be extracted and cited, strengthen entity and brand signals, implement structured data, and monitor where clients are and are not being surfaced.
-
Measurement and reporting: Pull and interpret data from Ahrefs, Google Search Console, and GA4, including AI citation and share-of-voice tracking. Build clear reporting and tell clients what the numbers actually mean.
-
Client collaboration: Work directly with clients and their engineering, product, and content teams. Explain technical recommendations in language a non-technical stakeholder can act on.
-
Team contribution: Partner closely with the rest of the team, share what you learn, review each other's work, and help improve how Pike executes.
-
Stay ahead of search: Track algorithm updates, AI Overview and SERP-feature shifts, and evolving best practices, and fold them into client work.
What We're Looking For
-
Experience: 3-6 years in SEO. In-house experience is strongly preferred, ideally where you owned organic outcomes for a brand end to end and had to get work implemented through other teams. Strong agency or consultancy backgrounds are also welcome.
-
Technical depth: Genuine command of how search engines work. Crawling, indexation, rendering, canonicalization, sitemaps and robots directives, structured data, site architecture, internal link equity, and page performance. You can read a crawl or a log file and know what matters.
-
Programmatic SEO: Hands-on experience building or scaling programmatic and template-driven page systems, including the quality and indexation problems that come with them.
-
AI search optimization: A working point of view on how AI Overviews and LLM-based discovery change SEO. You understand what makes a page citable, how zero-click behavior changes the definition of success, and how to measure visibility beyond blue-link rankings.
-
Comfort with ambiguity: You do well when the brief is incomplete. You can define the problem, choose a starting point, and adjust as you learn, without needing every detail settled first.
-
Collaboration: A strong team player. You communicate openly, share credit, welcome feedback on your work, and make the people around you more effective.
-
Tools: Fluency with Ahrefs or Semrush, Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, GA4, Screaming Frog or a comparable crawler, and spreadsheets. Comfort with SQL, Python, or basic scripting is a plus, but not required.
-
Communication: Clear, client-ready writing and speaking. You can explain the reasoning behind a technical recommendation to someone who does not do SEO.
-
Ownership: Self-directed and organized. You manage multiple clients and deadlines without dropping details.
