About the Role

We are looking for a talented and motivated Environmental & Planning lawyer to join the Practical Guidance team at LexisNexis on a full-time basis. The primary purpose of this role is to develop and maintain high quality, up-to-date, practical legal content on Environment & Planning law, with an increasing focus on optimising and enhancing content for our cutting-edge AI-powered legal workflow and research solutions.

You will play a key role in shaping how lawyers interact with Practical Guidance, Australia's most established and trusted 'how-to' of legal practice, by:

  • Creating, reviewing and maintaining plain English, workflow driven Environment & Planning content.
  • Using AI assisted tools to improve speed, consistency and usability of content.
  • Working closely with technology, product and editorial teams to embed legal expertise into AI enabled legal solutions.
  • Ensuring content reflects real world legal practice, market developments and emerging trends.
  • Providing support to help build brand awareness and influence market share across clients and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 3+ years PQE in Australian legal practice.
  • Experience as a practicing environment and planning lawyer in Victoria, NSW or Queensland.
  • Litigation experience is advantageous, particularly in relevant specialist environmental, planning and/or land courts and tribunals (particularly in relation to planning and development appeals).
  • Strong knowledge of planning, development and environmental regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience advising on administrative, environmental, planning and local government law.
  • Excellent communication and plain-English writing skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organisational skills.
  • Aptitude for building and fostering relationships with a range of diverse clients and local and international stakeholders.

Desirable Experience

  • Transactional experience advising on environmental and planning law issues, including legal due diligence.
  • Land use planning, zoning and development assessment.
  • Environmental and planning approvals and referrals, including under the EPBC Act.
  • Waste law and circular economy.
  • Biodiversity, heritage or vegetation clearing issues.
  • Renewable energy projects.
  • Judicial review or merits review proceedings.
  • Climate change, ESG or sustainability-related legal issues.
