Exciting news: We're hiring again as we grow our newsroom at Brookline.News! We're looking for a part-time reporter (20 hrs a week) to cover housing and development, with an emphasis on affordability.

The pay is $35,000 a year, plus a stipend in lieu of benefits. Flexible scheduling, but must be in Brookline at least one half-day a week.

Brookline.News is seeking an ambitious, energetic and savvy part-time reporter to cover housing and development, with an emphasis on affordability. In this position, you will report on the costs of living in Brookline, MA, the experiences of people who live and work here, and local, regional and state policy decisions. You will be encouraged to focus on enterprise stories, employing both data analysis and personal reporting, while also sometimes contributing to breaking, daily and weekly coverage.

You'll be talking to students and young families dealing with rent increases, homeowners wrestling with rising property taxes, seniors trying to stay in their homes, and Brookline Housing Authority residents who call Brookline home while living in low-income public housing. You might shine a light on properties that have fallen into disrepair while landlords continue to profit. You might examine the impact of policy decisions, looking for instance at whether regulations around accessory dwelling units have led to new housing.

In this position, you will work 20 hours a week, with flexible scheduling available. You should be prepared to spend at least one half-day a week working in our shared office space in Brookline. Evening and weekend work will occasionally be required. The position pays $35,000 per year, plus an additional benefits stipend. The ideal candidate will have at least 1-2 years experience working in a professional newsroom. Knowledge of housing and affordability issues is a strong plus, as is knowledge of Brookline.
