Fact-Checking Project Manager (Contract)

Location: Remote

Rate: Hourly (tbd) - $40/h+

Hours: variable; depends on project

About Factual:

Factual provides rigorous, standardized fact-checking services for nonfiction book authors, podcasters, documentary filmmakers, and nonprofits. We work closely with our clients to ensure accuracy, clarity, and accountability to soon-to-be-published works. 

Role summary: 

Factual is seeking a detail-oriented project manager to oversee fact-checking projects, coordinate fact-checkers, and ensure high-quality, on-time delivery to clients.

The project manager will:

• Set and enforce deadlines with team of freelance fact-checkers, ensuring all deliverables are submitted on time to clients.
• Communicate clearly with fact-checkers, establishing expectations and preferred channels.
• Escalate major issues early to leadership, including structural or high-impact factual concerns.
• Review fact-check reports for quality, ensuring that formatting, sourcing, and clarity meet the agency’s standards.
• Re-check a sample of facts and suggested corrections to ensure accuracy and completeness.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have at least three years of experience in journalism
• Have worked as a fact-checker, or managed fact-checkers 
• Be organized, efficient, independent, and communicative

Please note: this is a freelance, part-time (1099) position. No benefits (health insurance, retirement etc) come with this position.
