We're looking for a copywriter who is half creative storyteller and half conversion strategist. We need someone who can write a killer hook for a sports brand one minute, and decode consumer psychology for a lifestyle partner the next.

The GIST is looking for a highly creative, analytical Writer to craft compelling branded content and performance-driven copy across our newsletters, podcasts, and social channels. This person will write branded content for partners across a wide range of industries — ranging from sports to lifestyle to finance — and will help shape and execute The GIST’s own marketing and growth campaigns. This role is a full-time, 6-month contractor role.

If you love decoding consumer psychology, obsess over ad hooks that grab attention, and strive to create content that drives real action, this is the role for you. Understanding pain points to solution style writing and smart brevity are a must, along with having sports fluency and general pop culture knowledge.

You’ll become an expert on The GIST’s audience, strategically crafting copy to generate engagement. You’ll work closely with our content, social, brand partnerships, and growth teams to create content that aligns with The GIST’s voice, tone, and values while delivering measurable results for both advertisers and the business.

What you’ll be doing:

Branded Content Writing

  • Write high-performing copy for branded newsletter placements, podcast reads, and social captions.
  • Translate client briefs into clear, engaging, high-impact copy that aligns with The GIST’s voice.
  • Tailor messaging to varied audiences and platforms while maintaining consistent tone and performance goals.
  • Collaborate with The GIST’s social and design teams to ensure copy and creative are strategically aligned.
  • Provide feedback on branded content, ad creative, and copy produced by others. Be a key part of social branded content creation and editing processes.
  • Work with sales and partnerships teams to evaluate briefs, pitch new angles, and brainstorm creative concepts.
  • Ensure all branded and marketing content adheres to legal, compliance, and brand guidelines.


Growth & Marketing Content

  • Concept and create copy for paid ads, growth/lifestyle funnels, launches, and product marketing.
  • Generate, test, and iterate on hooks, subject lines, CTAs, and messaging variations based on performance insights.
  • Support revenue and growth campaigns across newsletters, social, podcast, and membership.

Who we’re looking for:

  • 3–5 years of ad copywriting experience, ideally with exposure to multiple industries and brand categories.
  • Deep understanding of consumer psychology — what motivates people, what earns trust, and what drives action.
  • A master of hooks. You can win someone’s attention in a split second.
  • Strong direct-response writing skills with a track record of delivering measurable results.
  • Clear, concise, personality-driven storyteller with the ability to adapt tone across formats.
  • A basic understanding of current women’s and men’s sports storylines in order to authentically weave sports idioms, verbiage, athlete references etc. into copy as needed.
  • Experience writing for newsletters, social, audio, and paid media. Curious and adaptable to learn more.
  • Collaborative communicator who can give thoughtful feedback and coach others to improve their copy.
  • Comfort interpreting and internalizing creative briefs, including partner messaging, KPIs, and positioning.
  • Proactive and curious, always testing, learning, iterating, and pushing creative quality higher.
  • Aligned with The GIST’s mission, has an appreciation for sports, culture, and empowering historically underserved audiences.
