Currently in 7 cities across the country, we are positioning ourselves for future growth and have an exciting opportunity for a Storyteller & Content Specialist to elevate how we capture, craft, and share stories that demonstrate our impact and fuel organizational growth. This role is responsible for developing compelling written and multimedia content that strengthens brand awareness, supports fundraising and corporate engagement, and brings our mission of economic mobility for students to life.
Reporting to the Director of Communications and working in collaboration with other leaders and colleagues, the Storyteller & Content Specialist will serve as a primary copywriter and content producer across national campaigns, storytelling, and key organizational moments—including partner recruitment, Annual Impact Report, Giving Tuesday, and end-of-year fundraising. This is an ideal role for a strong writer and storyteller who understands how narrative drives engagement, trust, and action.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop compelling student, alumni, corporate partner, donor, and staff stories that illustrate the impact of Genesys Works’ model.
- Translate complex programmatic outcomes into accessible, human-centered narratives aligned with brand messaging
- Conduct interviews with students, alumni, corporate partners, board members, and staff to source authentic stories.
- Maintain a steady pipeline of story assets that can be repurposed across channels
- Write and edit content for:
- Website pages and feature stories
- Annual Impact Report and supporting materials
- Fundraising campaigns (Giving Tuesday, year-end, special appeals)
- Corporate partner and donor stewardship collateral and case studies
- Newsletters, blog posts, and talking points
- Will assist with internal communications, as needed
- Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Manager and Director of Marketing to adapt stories for social media, email, and media outreach.
- Assist in preparing content toolkits for local sites to ensure brand consistency while enabling local storytelling
- Support national campaigns by developing core narrative arcs, headline copy, and supporting content.
- Organize and tag written content within the organization’s digital asset management system.
- Track story usage and performance to inform future content strategy.
- Support the development of content calendars and storytelling priorities in alignment with national marketing goals
The Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate Has The Following
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, English, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of experience in storytelling, content creation, communications, or marketing—preferably within a nonprofit, education, or mission-driven organization
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a strong command of narrative voice and tone.
- Experience conducting interviews and synthesizing qualitative information into compelling stories.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Familiarity with digital platforms (CMS, email marketing tools, social media) and content repurposing best practices.
- Strong attention to detailes
- Commitment to accuracy, inclusivity, and ethical storytelling
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting fundraising or corporate engagement through content.
- Familiarity with workforce development, education, or youth-serving organizations.
- Basic understanding of analytics and content performance metrics.
- Comfort working cross-functionally with marketing, development, and program teams.

Salary Range: $63,000-$78,000
