GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

The Met welcomes millions of visitors annually to its galleries and reaches many more online and through social media, with more than 14 million followers across its social channels. The Met’s world-renowned social media presence is an integral part of the Museum and its mission to  connect all people to creativity, knowledge, ideas, and one another through art. Through our vast reach, we aim to educate, inspire, and connect a wide international audience to The Met’s collection and programs, whether followers live in the five boroughs or across the globe. With this in mind, we are seeking a Social Media Video Producer who shares this vision and is ready to help drive it forward.

The Social Media Video Producer will play an integral role in the production of video content for The Met’s social media channels, including Instagram, TikTok, RedNote, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and other channels as needed. The purpose of this role is to showcase the breadth and depth of the Museum’s collection, programs, and activities and enhance visitor engagement through immersive, innovative, fun, engaging, and educational video, hopping onto platform trends as relevant opportunities arise.

Duties will include the day-to-day publication and scheduling of content, monitoring of comments, image work, and proofreading.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Research, write, photograph, film, produce, and edit video content for The Met’s social media channels
  • Develop content ideas based on artworks, exhibitions, programs, cultural moments, social media trends, and more, in collaboration with the broader Marketing and Digital Content team
  • Contribute to social media strategy and overview for campaigns, exhibitions, and other marketing initiatives
  • Shoot video and photography on iPhone; DSLR and/or mirrorless camera, using a gimbal, microphones, ring light, and other production equipment.
  • Stay current on emerging creators, video formats, platform trends, and cultural moments, particularly across Instagram and TikTok, to inform and inspire video content.
  • Build relationships across the institution to identify compelling stories, people, and opportunities for social media content.
  • Engage with audiences across social media platforms by responding to comments, questions, and messages and fostering ongoing community interaction.
  • Work with a wide range of internal stakeholders to build understanding of social media platforms, best practices, and emerging trends.
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and Skills:

  • 2-3 years of experience in social media video production, preferably in the arts and culture field
  • Strong copywriting and proofreading skills
  • Advanced skills shooting video and photography on iPhone and DSLR and/or mirrorless camera, as well as gimbal, microphones, ring light, and other associated equipment
  • Strong interviewing skills, including question writing and talent management
  • Experience with Cap Cut, Instagram Edits, and Premiere Pro
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor

Knowledge and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Understanding of social media platforms and trends, particularly short-form video
  • Interest in emerging social media products/tools
  • Knowledge of and interest in art history

COMPENSATION:

  • Pay Rate: $82,000 - $92,000 / Annually

The advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role. The advertised pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage for any specific employee. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.

Location Requirements

At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
