Who We Are
The Financial Diet (TFD) is a cross-platform media company dedicated to helping women feel more confident about money and build lives that reflect their priorities, regardless of their budget. Now in our eleventh year, TFD is home to the largest women-focused personal finance channel on YouTube, an engaged social media audience, ongoing digital events and workshops, and a growing membership community. Our small, collaborative team creates thoughtful, accessible content about money, careers, relationships, culture, and the many ways our financial lives intersect with everything else. As our social media needs grow, we're looking for a Social Media Contractor to help us get more out of the content we're already creating while keeping our social channels active, timely, and engaging.
The Role
A significant part of your work will involve reviewing TFD's long-form YouTube videos and identifying the moments, ideas, quotes, and conversations that can become compelling social content. You'll help transform those videos into Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Instagram grid posts, and YouTube Community content—making sure strong ideas don't live on just one platform.
You'll work closely with TFD's Content & Production Manager, who oversees social content strategy and planning, to execute our day-to-day social presence. This includes supporting daily YouTube Shorts publishing, creating social assets, contributing original ideas, and engaging with our community. You'll also communicate directly with TFD's editors and other creative vendors.
We're looking for someone who can manage those day-to-day requests independently: clearly communicating what is needed, providing specific timestamps and instructions for needed social clip creation, setting reasonable deadlines, following up when necessary, and making sure deliverables arrive on time to ensure an organized content calendar. This role is a strong fit for someone who is creative and operational: you can recognize a great hook, but you also know how to get the asset made, approved, scheduled, and published without needing to be walked through each step.
What You'll Do
- Turn long-form content into social-first content. Regularly review TFD's YouTube videos to identify compelling moments for Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, as well as ideas that can be adapted into Instagram grid posts and YouTube Community posts. You should be able to recognize what makes a moment work outside the context of the full video and identify strong hooks, useful takeaways, interesting opinions, and conversation starters.
- Support daily short-form video publishing. Work with the Content & Production Manager to maintain TFD's daily YouTube Shorts cadence, including identifying clips, coordinating edits, writing optimized titles/copy, scheduling content, and ensuring posts go live accurately and on time.
- Create and schedule social content. Write engaging platform-appropriate copy, have it reviewed by the Content & Production Manager, and design social assets in Canva.
- Coordinate with editors and creative vendors. Send clear, professional, and timely requests for social assets, including specific timestamps, deliverables, deadlines, context, and revision notes. You'll be expected to communicate kindly but directly, follow up when needed, and keep projects moving without requiring constant oversight.
- Bring us timely ideas. Keep an eye on platform trends, formats, conversations, and updates that are relevant to the TFD audience. We don't need someone who jumps on every trend—we need you to recognize which ones actually make sense for our brand.
- Pay attention to performance. Monitor social performance using Instagram Insights and YouTube analytics, identify patterns in what is and isn't resonating, and bring useful observations back to the Content & Production Manager to help inform future planning.
What We're Looking For
You have professional experience creating and managing social media content, ideally for a publisher, media company, agency, creator-led brand, or branded-content team. You're particularly strong at content repurposing. You can watch a 30-minute YouTube video and quickly identify the 30–90 seconds that could become a strong Reel or Short—and understand when an idea would work better as a static post, carousel, or Community post.
You have a strong working knowledge of:
- Instagram, including Reels and grid content
- YouTube Shorts and YouTube Community
- Canva and social-first graphic design
- Social copywriting, hooks, captions, titles, and keywords
- Instagram Insights and YouTube Creator Studio
- Airtable, Google Workspace, and Slack
Just as importantly, you are:
- A clear communicator. You know how to write a concise, professional request that gives an editor or vendor everything they need to complete the work correctly the first time.
- Reliable with deadlines. You understand that social publishing often depends on multiple people completing work in sequence, and you communicate early when something may jeopardize a deadline.
- Comfortable working independently. Once priorities and expectations are clear, you can manage your responsibilities without needing constant reminders or step-by-step direction.
- Organized. You can keep track of multiple assets, deadlines, edits, and publishing dates without things falling through the cracks.
- Editorially thoughtful. You understand that "social-first" doesn't have to mean shallow. You can identify nuanced, interesting ideas and package them in ways that make people want to stop, watch, read, comment, or share.
- Collaborative and receptive to feedback. TFD is a small team, and we work closely together. You should be comfortable receiving direction, asking smart questions when necessary, and adjusting quickly.
Familiarity with TFD and/or the personal finance space is a plus, but not required.
