We are growing quickly and have a lot of fun projects in the pipeline. We're looking for bright, energetic people to join us. Success in these roles will lead to further advancement down the line.

ABOUT WORKS IN PROGRESS

Works in Progress is a magazine of new and underrated ideas to improve the world. It is part of Stripe. We publish an eclectic mix of articles on cities, biotech, economics, business, technology, science, history, arts and culture. We have a fast-growing global audience, primarily in tech, finance and politics. We are now putting renewed effort into video and social media, and we want someone to build Works in Progress a much bigger audience on every platform.

THE ROLE

This is a role for an all-rounder who can write posts, design campaigns and produce video content that works across all platforms. WIP publishes a constant stream of articles and we are soon to launch a new Youtube channel converting them into visual essays. Your job is to get all of it in front of a far bigger audience across socials.

You will own Works in Progress's channels on social media and be responsible for growing them quickly. Our writers already have strong personal followings on Twitter but our main account should be much bigger than it is. Instagram, TikTok and shortform video are the next step, with LinkedIn, Facebook a lower priority but still expected to grow.

The first goal is the mindshare of the WIP brand. Views, retention and followers among the right people. Down the line you will help us convert that audience into print subscribers, but the job now is to build it.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own and run our social channels day to day: X, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and anywhere else our content can succeed.
  • Grow them fast, with clear targets for followers, views, retention and engagement.
  • Cut our YouTube videos into clips and shorts for every platform.
  • Turn articles into threads, carousels, charts and explainers.
  • Create original content that only works on the platform it was made for.
  • Edit fast vertical video that people watch to the end.
  • Write sharp, scroll-stopping copy in the WIP voice, especially on X.
  • Watch performance data closely and let it shape what you do.
  • Spot new formats and trends early and move on them the same day.

WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO

  • Is chronically online and obsessed with ideas. Your group chats should already be full of the kind of thing we publish.
  • Is an all rounder who can edit video, design, and write copy. Most people can do one of these well but ideally we'd like all three.
  • Is self-starting and full of ideas every day. We want to be hearing suggestions from you in week one.
  • Who understands the new media world and what kind of content breaks through in it.
  • Is motivated by growth and comfortable being measured on it.
  • Is happy to pitch in with everything as part of a small team.
  • Comfortable on camera is a plus but not required.
  • We need someone who is happy to work in London in an office every day.
