Trails Magazine is looking for a contract social media manager!
Three years in and, while we have a sizable following (18k followers on Instagram), I don’t feel like we’ve really taken advantage of our reach. Frankly, we’ve kept the lights on and I want to do more than that.
We’re looking for someone who can help us develop a social strategy and recognizable “voice,” as well as execute on it, managing the day-to-day scheduling and maintenance of, primarily, our Instagram account (though potentially other accounts based on that strategy) in order to position Trails as a community leader in the backpacking space (and, who are we kidding, to sell magazines—no matter what a business owner says, that’s always the real goal at the end of the day). Tasks would include strategizing and planning with our team to understand larger marketing goals, light content/asset creation (we have a big bank of photos and videos we’re constantly adding to, but there may be some social-specific things we’d need your help with), scheduling and posting, interacting with our community, etc.
I’d love proposals from interested social media managers with the following:
—Your rate;
—Your expected time commitment, based on the strategy you have in mind. I don’t have a set number of hours to "give" you—I want to know what you think you’ll need to achieve our goals;
—Your ideas for what @/trailsmag should become. I’m not asking you to give up state secrets, but I would like to hear your pitch for what we should be doing, the voice you imagine us having, the route you plan to take with our socials, and the goals and expectations I should have in mind for all that.
Frankly, experience is less important to me than good ideas, so sell me on yours. A connection to and familiarity with the backpacking space is obviously important.
Full disclosure: I promise I do understand the value of social media, but I personally hate it. I don’t really know what I’m doing. And I will always be a skeptic. (Do I sound like a fun person to work with?) I kinda just need you to understand and work with me on that.
Send your proposals to [click apply]. If I like what you have to say, I’ll be excited to find some time to chat!
