Big Cabal Media is expanding its social impact programmes team, and we’re looking for curious, thoughtful, and driven people who believe in the power of storytelling to shape conversations and outcomes across Africa.

We’re recruiting for roles across the following fixed term positions:
- Project Associate (Ops and Outreach)
- Content Creator
- Associate Editor
- Senior Editor
- Journalist / Writer (Mid-level)
- Senior Writer (Social Impact focus)

Across all roles, we’re looking for people who combine strong editorial judgment or execution skills with empathy for audiences, attention to detail, and the ability to work in fast-moving, collaborative environments.

The right candidates will be proactive, self-directed, and with a genuine interest in Africa’s social issues, gender, health, governance, and youth culture.

Senior Writer (Social Impact – Health and Gender Focus) – Contract Role (Apply Here)

About the role We are looking for a Senior Writer to lead high-impact storytelling on health, gender, and human development. This role centres on producing flagship narratives that combine data, policy insight, and lived experience. You will play a key role in shaping thought leadership and long-form reporting across the Social Impact portfolio.

Key responsibilities
Write in-depth features, investigations, and opinion pieces on health systems, gender equity, and HDI-related themes Translate research and data into compelling, accessible narratives Contribute flagship stories for campaigns, reports, and partnerships Mentor junior writers and support editorial development

What we’re looking for
5+ years of experience in journalism or long-form writing Proven expertise in health, gender, or development reporting Strong analytical skills and narrative craft Ability to write with authority, empathy, and clarity
