This month marks three years since I left the workforce to become my wife Becca's fulltime caregiver. She has an extremely severe case of a complex, chronic neuroimmune disease called ME/CFS.
The disease has left her 100% bed bound, on a feeding tube, mostly nonverbal and in need of near complete sensory deprivation (ear plugs, eye mask, no clothes). There is no known cure.
The only way for Becca to call for help is to make a clicking sound -- which means that I have lived for the past three years always listening to the audio from her room. And I never leave a 30-second radius from her, so I can quickly respond to her daily moments of intense pain and distress.
In all this time we have tried dozens of substances. There are only three that Becca asks for regularly to cope. Two are prescription medications with high risk profiles. The third is kava, a calming root extract with origins and a long history of use in the South Pacific. Something we'd never even heard about until two months ago!
There are lots of snake oils and snake oil salesmen out there. I distrust the supplement industry about as much or more than anyone. Nukava is different. I'm here to be involved in genuine quality of life improvement.

Nukava is looking for a Paid Media Specialist to launch and manage our early paid acquisition campaigns for a DTC ecommerce brand. Start date ASAP.
This is a 1099 independent contractor role. Compensation is a $1,000/month retainer, with ad spend handled separately.
What you'll help with:
- Launch paid campaigns across Meta, TikTok, Google, or other recommended channels.
- Build basic campaign structure, audiences, budgets, and tracking.
- Manage budget pacing and campaign performance.
- Test creative, copy, hooks, offers, and landing pages.
- Monitor key metrics like CAC, ROAS, CPA, CPC, CTR, conversion rate, and spend.
- Recommend budget shifts based on performance.
- Provide simple weekly reporting and next-step recommendations.
- Help keep ads appropriate for ecommerce, wellness, and supplement-style compliance.
Good fit:
- Experience running paid media for ecommerce brands.
- Comfortable managing small budgets efficiently.
- Experience with Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, Google Ads, Shopify, GA4, or similar tools.
- Bonus if you've worked with supplements, beverages, wellness, CPG, or regulated ad categories.
- Can move quickly without overcomplicating early-stage testing.
