We're hiring! I'm looking for a Marketing & Communications Specialist to join our team at the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO). This is a fun one! You'd be helping to run our email marketing and social media, but also designing the graphics and visuals behind our campaigns.

Position summary

The Marketing & Communications Specialist drives SSO's email marketing and social media presence and produces the visual assets that support marketing and communications campaigns across the organization. This role owns the full email lifecycle in Informz/iMIS and translates campaign concepts into polished graphics and social content.

Details: Full Time, Experienced level. Hybrid/Remote is allowed. Salary: $60,000. Location: Rosemont, IL.

Key responsibilities

  • Build, schedule, and send email campaigns through Informz, including segmentation, list hygiene, and preference center management
  • Manage SSO's social media channels, including content calendars, scheduling, and engagement
  • Design graphics and visual assets for email, social, web, and print use across programs (grants, mentorship, career webinars, design contests, Annual Meeting promotion)
  • Maintain and refine email re-engagement and cadence strategies in coordination with the Assistant Director
  • Track and report on email and social performance metrics to inform ongoing strategy
  • Support promotional campaigns for recurring programs (e.g., Innovator Grant, CPS Mentorship Program) and the SSO Annual Meeting
  • Coordinate with iMIS/Ensync data to ensure email lists and segments stay accurate

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience in email marketing, social media management, or graphic design, ideally in an association, nonprofit, or medical/scientific membership organization
  • Working knowledge of Informz or a comparable email service provider
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite or Canva)
  • Creative, artistic eye with a strong understanding of design principles (layout, typography, color, visual hierarchy)
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple campaigns and deadlines simultaneously
  • Familiarity with member data/CRM systems (e.g., iMIS) a plus
