ISI seeks a Managing Editor to oversee the development and maintenance of a Collegiate Network website.

Overview

The Collegiate Network Managing Editor oversees the backend operations and editorial curation of a website the Collegiate Network is launching in early 2026. This role is responsible for identifying, curating, and elevating the strongest journalism produced across our network of student-run campus newspapers, as well as work by alumni, fellows, and interns. The Managing Editor serves as an editorial curator and a technical problem-solver, ensuring that the website consistently features high-quality content while functioning smoothly and reliably.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Collegiate Network, who also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the website. While the Managing Editor plays a critical role in surfacing and vetting content, final editorial authority and decision-making power rests with the Editor-in-Chief. The Managing Editor supports and informs those decisions but is not the final arbiter of what is published on the site.

This position requires strong editorial judgment, technical competence, and the ability to work closely with student journalists and editors at varying levels of experience. This position is available at ISI’s Wilmington, DE headquarters or remote with a preference for Washington, D.C., New York City, and PhiladelphiaRemote employees are expected to make regular visits to ISI’s campus in Wilmington, DE.

Early-career editors, former campus paper staff, and operations-minded writers with a strong awareness of the journalism landscape who want to build strong editorial judgment and digital publishing skills are encouraged to apply for this role.

About ISI

Founded in 1953, the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI) is a nonprofit organization that educates for liberty, equipping future leaders to embrace and defend the principles that make America free and prosperous.

Too many college students feel isolated or attacked for questioning the ever-narrowing range of debate on campus. ISI introduces them to the American tradition of liberty and to a vibrant community of students and scholars. Our students get an education and a community they don’t find at their universities—and in the process they become articulate voices for conservative principles.

The Collegiate Network is ISI’s journalism arm, equipping on-campus journalists with support that enables them to launch and sustain successful independent campus papers that prize truth over narrative and ideology. For 40 years, CN has identified enterprising young talent with notable alumni including entrepreneur Peter Thiel, journalist Ross Douthat, and Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, among many others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and curate content from RSS feeds across Collegiate Network campus newspapers and partner sites.
  • Evaluate and select the strongest pieces for consideration for the website, prioritizing quality, originality, relevance, and impact.
  • Curate and integrate content from alumni, fellows, and interns, ensuring a balanced and representative mix of voices.
  • Parse down large volumes of content into a concise, high-quality daily or weekly list of top pieces for editorial consideration.
  • Maintain clear editorial standards for website inclusion and apply them consistently.
  • Coordinate with the primary editor to surface standout stories, trends, and emerging voices within the network.

Website & Backend Management

  • Oversee the backend functionality of the website, including RSS feed integration and content display.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to feeds, posting, formatting, or site performance.
  • Perform routine quality checks to ensure links, images, headlines, and metadata display correctly.
  • Work with internal teams or external vendors as needed to resolve more complex technical issues.

Student & Network Support

  • Serve as a point of contact for student editors and contributors experiencing technical or publishing issues on their websites.
  • Provide guidance and basic training to students on RSS feeds, site troubleshooting, and best practices for content publishing.
  • Communicate clearly and patiently with students to resolve issues and build confidence in their technical and editorial workflows.

Qualifications

  • Strong editorial judgment and experience evaluating news, opinion, and feature writing.
  • Familiarity with college journalism and student media ecosystems.
  • Comfort working with content management systems, RSS feeds, and basic website backend tools.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve common technical issues, with a willingness to learn new systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, especially when working with students and early-career journalists.
  • Previous experience as a managing editor, digital editor, or section editor.
  • Experience working with or mentoring student journalists.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, WordPress, or similar publishing platforms.
  • Experience curating content for a news aggregator or digital publication (can include college publications).
