π¨ NEW JOB ALERT π¨ LIFESTYLE REPORTER
I've back from Down Under, having swapped beaches and coconut water for hard news and black coffee, and I'm super excited to announce that.... we're hiring!
Our Lifestyle Team β led by the ever-brilliant Ria Newman β is looking for a new reporter.
Given the state of the UK's job market (we can only laugh or cry) before you apply, let me share some advice.
Firstly, if you don't answer the minor questions at the bottom of the ad, we won't review your CV. So please, don't miss them.
Secondly, we've purposefully not put a long bullet point list of skills needed β like 'you must stay on top of the news' or 'you must be passionate about journalism' β because frankly, that should be part and parcel of the job.
What we really want is someone who is tenacious.
Someone who understands that you can't wait for the story to land in your lap or for the case study to magically give you the dream answers that make a story sing.
You have to push and dig and graft.
Also note that we work from home β which is wonderful (I am sitting in my garden as I type this) β but it also requires team members who take pride in managing their work themselves.
It turns out that buzz phrases like 'attention to detail' aren't just buzz phrases at all.
Make no mistake, we will push you βΒ but it's because we want you to succeed.
We'll also help, encourage and guide you.
Everyone says it but I stand by this: We have a really great team who all enjoy working together.
If you dream of writing features, working on exclusives where you actually get the time you need to make them shine and want a job where you get to build your journalism skills βΒ apply below.
P.S Ria was voted 'most helpful colleague' by our team β she is an amazing editor to work and learn from.

Lifestyle Reporter β Remote (UK), full-time
At Jam Press, we tell the storiesΒ people can't stop reading.Β
We're a news agency that licenses human interest features, exclusives and breaking stories to some of the biggest media outlets in the world β think Mail Online, The Sun and beyond.Β
Our teams are good at what they do because they care about the people at the heart of every story.Β We're looking for a Lifestyle Reporter who gets that.Β
Someone who is naturally good with people β who puts a nervous case study at ease without thinking, who knows which interview line makes the whole piece sing, and who instinctively understands what makes a stranger want to open up about the hardest moments of their life.
You're comfortable in the world of tabloid journalism. You read, respect, and understand what it takes to make a story land on a front page or top a homepage.
Around 80% of the Lifestyle Desk's work consists of exclusives: health features, real life stories tied to the news agenda, sex, relationships, travel, money. These are features that need to make the reader feel something. Emotion is the engine.Β
Your ability to quickly build rapport and make someone feel safe in your hands isn't just a soft skill. It's the job.
Once you findΒ the story, you know how to bring the case study along β earning their trust and securing their agreement to work with us exclusively.Β
You also know that a great interview isn't about the questions you prepared; it's about listening, reacting and following the thread that matters.Β
Every person who shares their story with us walks away feeling good about it. That's not a nice-to-have; it's who we are.
You're tenacious. You chase. You don't wait to be told what to do next.Β
Working remotely, you manage your own workload, communicate your progress, and proactively ask for help when needed, rather than waiting for someone to look for you.
News agency experience is preferred but we'll consider any candidate with strong, relevant experience.
How to apply
Send your CV and a cover letter to [click apply].
Your application must include three feature ideas you'd bring to morning conference β tabloid-focused, outlet-ready for Mail Online or The Sun, and story-led. Tell us the angle, tell us why it works.
We also want one sentence from you: What do you think is the single most important thing in feature writing? (Hint: The answer is in this ad)
