We're continuing to grow and are looking to add additional writers to our travel trending news team.
This is not a traditional travel writing role. We're not looking for destination guides or hotel reviews. We're looking for journalists and news-minded writers who can identify stories people are already talking about online and turn them into compelling articles for a national audience.
If you're constantly spotting interesting stories on Reddit, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, local news sites, government agency pages, and online communities before they hit the mainstream, this may be a great fit.
Topics we regularly cover include:
- Airline and airport news
- National parks and public lands
- Wildlife encounters and unusual outdoor stories
- Road trips and roadside attractions
- Hiking, camping, and outdoor recreation
- Theme parks and tourist destinations
- Travel scams, consumer alerts, and safety issues
- Viral travel stories and social media trends
The ideal candidate has strong news instincts, understands what captures attention online, and can quickly turn emerging stories into engaging content.
Requirements:
- U.S.-based (East Coast preferred)
- Journalism or digital publishing experience
- Strong news judgment
- Ability to identify trending stories independently
- Weekend and/or morning availability preferred
This is a 1099 freelance position starting at $25+/hour, depending on experience.
We're expanding our coverage and publishing volume, so this is an addition to our existing team
