Freelance Feature Writer
Kelsey MediaKelsey is expanding its talent pool of freelance writers.
We're looking for smart, original storytellers to contribute to three of our newest Apple News brands: Coast, The Great Outdoors and Classic American.
These aren't channels looking for the same old stories. We want writers who can find the unexpected, fascinating and highly shareable stories hiding within each brand's world - and tell them with authority, energy and a strong sense of narrative.
COAST
We're interested in the dramatic and unexpected side of life where land meets sea: tsunamis, hurricanes, coastal disasters, extreme weather, shipwrecks, survival stories, maritime mysteries and the natural forces that shape our coastlines.
We're looking for writers who can bring together science, history, adventure and human stories - explaining what happened, why it happened and what it was like to be there.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Think beyond traditional outdoor adventure. We're looking for stories about wilderness survival, extreme weather, volcanoes, earthquakes, avalanches, wildlife encounters, missing hikers, remote rescues and extraordinary expeditions.
The ideal writer can turn a remarkable real-world event into a compelling story - combining people, place, science, danger and discovery without resorting to sensationalism.
CLASSIC AMERICAN
Classic American is expanding beyond cars to explore the people, places and culture that make America fascinating - from classic cars and the open road to diners, denim, food, music, sport, bars, workwear, travel and the wider world of Americana.
We want writers who can uncover the stories behind the icons: the people, places, objects and cultural moments that tell us something about America.
What are we looking for?
Great ideas. Strong storytelling. Original reporting. Writers who know how to make readers stop scrolling because they've found a story they didn't know they wanted to read.
You might be an experienced feature writer, a specialist journalist, an expert in a particular field - or simply someone with a brilliant idea and the ability to tell it brilliantly.
If you're interested, send us a couple of story ideas for any of the three brands you'd like to write for. Tell us which channel you're pitching for, give us a few lines on each idea, and include links to some examples of your work.
We're particularly interested in writers who can bring fresh perspectives, original ideas and distinctive voices to these channels.
If that sounds like you - we'd love to hear from you.
