About the role
Colin Rocker is a full-time content creator (@careercolin), speaker, author, and founder of For The Firsts — a growing professional community for first-generation professionals. He is searching for a highly organized, proactive assistant who can own project coordination, partner communication, and daily prioritization across both his personal brand and event business. This role is equal parts project manager, communications lead, and right hand.
Key responsibilities
- Project & Operations Management:
- Build and maintain a master project tracker covering all active initiatives (speaking, events, workshops, partnerships)
- Send a daily priority message each morning outlining the top tasks that need attention that day
- Track deliverable deadlines, contract milestones, and time-sensitive follow-ups across @careercolin and For The Firsts
- Manage calendar — schedule calls, protect creative blocks, coordinate logistics around events
- Events & Community (For The Firsts):
- Provide logistics coordination support for For The Firsts events — venue research, vendor communication, RSVPs, and day-of logistics
- Research and contact potential event speakers; handle communication & confirmations, bios, and speaker briefs
- Research and contact potential event venues; compile comparison docs with pricing, capacity, and availability
- Build and maintain event run-of-show documents, event pages, and internal planning timelines
- Speaking, Hosting & Workshop Support:
- Manage inbound and outbound speaking and emceeing inquiries — tracking status, drafting responses, and following up
- Pull research ahead of speaking engagements: audience profiles, company background, & key talking points
- Book travel and accommodations for out-of-town engagements
- Communications & Partner Relations:
- Draft first-response templates for common email inquiries
- Track the status of all active brand and community partnerships, flagging upcoming deadlines or needed touchpoints
- Prepare pre-event briefs including key stakeholders, dress code, location and travel time
- Press & PR Management:
- Monitor and log inbound press inquiries, podcast interview requests, and PR event appearances
- Maintain a running press kit and speaker one-pager with current bios, headshots, and brand assets so outreach materials are always ready to send
- Research and pitch relevant media opportunities — podcasts, features, panels, and editorial placements as needed
What we’re looking for
- 2+ years of experience in project coordination, executive assistance, event production, or a similar operations role
- Experience drafting pitch documents and presentations
- Exceptional written & verbal communication
- Strong systems thinker — you can build trackers, create order, and maintain them
- Comfortable building organizational and communication infrastructure alongside the founder
- Familiarity with tools like Notion, Claude, Asana, Google Workspace and basic scheduling tools
- Ideally based in the NY/NJ/CT tristate area with the ability to attend in-person events when needed
- Bonus: familiarity with @careercolin, For The Firsts, the creator economy, or event production in a community context
Benefits
Access & proximity: Work directly with a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and LinkedIn Top Voice in a front-row seat to see how a creator business actually operates. Brand deals, speaking, events, publishing, you will see it all
Flexible, remote-first work: 90% virtual with flexible hours and no office requirement, and this can certainly be done async (note that NYC-based candidates will be prioritized)
Covered travel and event attendance: When needed, you’ll accompany Colin at For The Firsts events, speaking engagements, and brand trips/activations
Learning & development: Direct exposure to brand partnerships, contract negotiations, community building, and content strategy
Room to grow: As we scale, this role has the potential to grow into a more dedicated Ops position
How to apply & hiring process
Here's what to expect:
- Application Form: Submit your application by completing this form [click apply] in full. We'll review every submission and reach out to candidates who move forward within one to two weeks.
- 30-min Virtual Interview: The next step is a 30-minute virtual conversation with Colin. We’ll discuss how you work, how you think, and whether this is genuinely the right fit.
- 3-hour Trial Project & Presentation: The final step is a paid trial project & presentation. You'll be given a sample set of inbound requests and asked to build a project tracker in a tool of your choosing. You’ll then present this tracker to Colin and answer questions.
