ROLE PURPOSE

To lead Desiring God’s marketing and spreading strategy with creativity, conviction, and catalytic energy, ensuring our God-centered resources reach more people in more places with more impact.

This role exists to bring original ideas and bold strategies with the ability to rally people and resources to act on them. It will turn our mission into movement, enabling our campaigns, partnerships, and platforms to connect with audiences who haven’t yet encountered Christian Hedonism.


CORE OUTCOMES

  • Compelling Creative Strategy. Generate and lead innovative, mission-aligned marketing strategies that expand Desiring God’s reach to new audiences and deepen engagement with existing ones.
  • Unified Marketing Vision. Clarify the story, message, and audience strategy across campaigns, channels, and platforms, building cohesive plans that align with Desiring God’s mission, 10-year vision, and 3-year strategic plan.
  • Momentum and Movement. Consistently galvanize the team and organization around bold marketing initiatives, building enthusiasm and sustaining momentum from kickoff to completion.
  • High-Performing Team. Lead, coach, and grow the marketing team to execute creative ideas with excellence and joy.
  • Strategic Collaboration. Partner closely with internal team leaders from Product, Donor Partnerships, Outreach, and Teaching & Editorial to ensure marketing is fully integrated with Desiring God’s digital platform, partnership, and teaching priorities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Marketing Leadership. Shape and own Desiring God’s marketing strategy, aligning it with our mission, brand voice, and audience priorities.
  • Creative Campaign Development. Conceive and champion innovative campaigns and content strategies, in close collaboration with the Creative team, including increased and strategic use of video to introduce Desiring God’s message to new audiences.
  • Team Leadership. Lead, coach, and energize the marketing team — setting priorities, clarifying roles, and building a culture of creative courage and execution.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration. Partner with product, teaching, outreach, and donor partnership leaders to ensure marketing amplifies their work and integrates seamlessly with organizational priorities.
  • Audience Growth & Engagement. Develop and oversee strategies to grow Desiring God’s global reach, particularly among emerging audiences (i.e., 18–25-year-olds), including identifying where video, platforms, and formats can meaningfully advance awareness, engagement, and long-term discipleship.
  • Measurement & Iteration. Establish success metrics, evaluate impact, and adjust strategies to maximize reach and fruitfulness.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE

  • Strategic fluency in top-of-funnel growth. Familiarity with the tools, channels, and disciplines required for audience acquisition (e.g., digital advertising, analytics, SEO, platform algorithms, experimentation), with the ability to guide strategy, evaluate effectiveness, and partner with specialists, without needing to execute directly.
  • Genius in Creative Marketing. Proven ability to conceive, shape, and execute innovative marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Proven Leadership in Momentum-Building. Demonstrated history of galvanizing teams and stakeholders around bold ideas and sustaining energy through execution.
  • Strategic Judgment. Ability to evaluate ideas for mission fit, audience resonance, and impact potential — not just creativity for its own sake.
  • Team Leadership Experience. 7+ years leading marketing teams and initiatives, ideally in a content, ministry, or mission-driven context.
  • Missional Alignment. Deep resonance with Desiring God’s theological convictions and mission to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples.
  • Collaborative Spirit. Ability to work closely with cross-functional leaders, listen well, and integrate feedback without losing creative drive.

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

  • You would lead the Digital Spreading team, currently with an email marketer and social media specialist. A successful candidate would outline the needs for a high-performing spreading team and build the team accordingly.
  • You would join Desiring God’s Operations Team, composed of leaders from every team in the ministry, tasked to lead and deliver the work of the ministry.
  • You would collaborate closely with your organizational peers: our Creative Director, Director of Engineering, and Director of Donor Partnerships.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE

  • Ability to adhere to our affirmation of faith.
  • Able to legally work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Desiring God is based in Minneapolis, MN; this role is hybrid and requires being in the Twin Cities, Minnesota.
  • 7+ years of marketing leadership experience, ideally in a mission or content-driven organization.

Other Notes on the Role

This position is eligible for full-time benefits, including medical, dental, life, LTD, and 401k match.

The annual salary range for this position is $135k – $160k, commensurate with experience.
