The Harvest is a contemporary African publication committed to amplifying underreported stories on the continent's cultural, political, and social landscapes. Focused on long-form features, visual storytelling, and multidisciplinary commentary, The Harvest highlights African perspectives and fosters meaningful discussions. The publication aims to challenge narratives and inspire a reimagination of the continentās future through authentic and impactful storytelling led by African voices.
Role Description
This is a full-time remote role for a Contributing Writer and Creative Director.
Qualifications
- Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editorial skills with attention to detail
Proficiency in research, interviewing, and fact-checking
- Strong understanding of cultural, political, and social issues relevant to Africa
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adjust to remote workflows
- Experience in content creation or journalism, preferably in long-form or feature writing
- Familiarity with publishing platforms and basic SEO practices (preferred)
- Passion for amplifying African perspectives and generating impactful conversations
We seek contributors and community members from across Africa to center their communities' voices, covering topics such as:
- Environmental developments
- Agricultural innovations
- Cultural movements
- Political happenings
The Creative Director:
The Creative Director will oversee all creative outputs, establish a strong visual identity, and guide the artistic direction of the brandās projects and publications. This includes leading the development of the platformās magazine, shaping its vision, and steering its creative direction.
Remuneration
As The Harvest Africa grows and secures funding, the creative director and in-house contributors' positions currently posted will transition to paid roles. We look forward to building a media brand that resonates with like-minded, creative individuals.
