Partnerships Contract Grant Writer (Hourly, Remote)

Engagement: Independent Contractor | Duration: Feb–July 2026 (~40 hours)
Rate: $60–$90/hr (based on experience & location)

The Role

OceanX is seeking a Contract Grant Writer to support our Partnerships team over the next six months. This is a flexible, on-call role for someone who can turn complex ideas into compelling, funder-ready proposals.

Key Responsibilities

- Write, edit, and polish grant proposals and supporting materials
- Translate complex science and program data into clear, persuasive language
- Align proposals with funder priorities while maintaining OceanX’s voice
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather input and refine messaging
- Support proposal strategy, including outcomes, impact, and evaluation metrics

Requirements

- Must operate as a legal business entity (e.g., LLC) with an existing client base
Proven success writing grants for institutional and government funders
- Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills
- Ability to synthesize complex programs into clear narratives
- Experience working independently in a remote, deadline-driven environment
- Professional discretion with sensitive information

Preferred Experience

- Familiarity with science, ocean, or education funding
- Global experience (U.S., Europe, SE Asia)
- Comfortable collaborating with scientists, educators, and technical teams

Work Structure

~40 hours total over 6 months (scope TBD)
Work assigned as-needed around grant deadlines
- Eastern Time availability preferred
