Content and Community Manager — Tech Safari
Role Overview
As our Content and Community Manager, you will be at the forefront of building and engaging a dynamic, pan-African community. You’ll work directly with the Growth Lead and cross-functional teams to transform Tech Safari from a newsletter and social media pages into Africa’s most influential tech media brand.
In this role, you will:
-
Own our community building strategy:
Develop and implement initiatives that drive faster newsletter growth, higher engagement, and active participation across both Tech Safari and Caleb Maru’s social channels.
-
Enhance content distribution:
Repurpose high‑performing content across channels to engage different segments of our community.
-
Build our video and creative content strategy:
Support the creation of compelling video content that amplifies our community’s voice and showcases success stories across platforms.
-
Drive marketing automation and reporting:
Leverage analytics and experiment with creative growth engines (from merchandise and contests to viral campaigns) to boost engagement.
-
Support our rebrand:
Assist in rolling out updated messaging and visuals to position Tech Safari as the trusted voice in African tech.
-
Support in-person and online events:
Plan and execute social content for virtual and on‑the‑ground events that attract founders, investors, and tech innovators.
You Should Apply If:

You’ve successfully grown engaged communities or content platforms (B2B and/or tech-focused).
-
You have a deep understanding of the African tech ecosystem.
-
You can balance complex data with creative, exciting content.
-

-
You’re comfortable being a “team of one” (for now) and taking initiative.
-
You write compelling copy that drives community action and engagement.
-
You excel in creating and executing strategic campaigns—not just publishing content.
-
You can pivot quickly in a fast-paced, remote environment.
-
You appreciate the cultural and creative nuances of different cultures and ecosystems in Africa.
💡 Essential Experience & Skills

-
Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
-
Creativity: Experience with long and short-form video content creation and a knack for coming up with viral, creative engagement ideas.
-

-
Mindset: Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, fully remote environment and adapts quickly, with experience using the modern remote work tech stack, including platforms like Slack.

💡 Our Goals
Here’s the long and short of what we need our next community manager to achieve within the next 3 months. None of these are negotiable:
-
Create 2–3 engaging posts per week on Caleb’s LinkedIn.
LinkedIn is our primary growth channel. In a sense, it’s where Tech Safari Media was born with stories from our founder Caleb Maru. We need someone who can write engaging posts mimicking Caleb’s voice and tone. We have a lot of content so content will not be a problem. The posts will range from event recaps to sneak peeks of our newsletter editions, and charts.
-
Create 3–4 LinkedIn posts per week on Tech Safari’s LinkedIn.
Same as above—only with a little more creative freedom. The TS Page will be your page, and we expect you will use the unique Tech Safari voice to connect to our audience.
-
Write our Weekly RoundUp.
Our RoundUp outlines the top African tech news in an easy to digest listicle of 500 words. It goes out every Sunday, but we schedule it on Fridays (yay, work-life balance). This goal is critical to us because it helps our community manager stay up-to-date with African tech.
-
Use social media to help us grow our newsletter and events audience organically.
There are no crazy expectations here. But our events and newsletter arms are critical to our business. We are experimenting and implementing other growth channels for either, but we’d like some organic non-ad growth from social media.
-
Reach our follower goals:
-
10,000 followers on LinkedIn
-
5,000 followers on Instagram
-
1,000 followers on TikTok
The first two are the primary channels we’ve identified as channels for growth; as the expert, you get to tell us which additional channels we should focus on.
-
Increase engagement across our social media channels.
That means likes, comments, reposts, retweets—we want to be visible on social media.
What This Means for You
All these goals mean a couple of things for us:
1. Ownership
Right now, we are not looking to handhold anyone to achieve these goals. So we are looking for someone who will own these goals, and the processes it will need to get there. This means leading by creating a content strategy and a content calendar which the rest of the team can co-create and review with you.
2. Content Creation
You need to have basic design skills, and basic video editing skills—we use Canva and it works perfectly for us. We do not have a content team, so we expect that you will create it. This means you will write social media copy, work on strategy, create videos and design. We also know how much time this takes, so we will give you the time and tools you need. Again, we have no crazy expectations when it comes to output. We want reasonable output, that’s refined—work that you can be proud to put your name on.
