AI Writer and Prompt Engineer
Service StoriesAre you or someone you know looking for an AI Writer / Prompt Engineering role? We're hiring at Service Stories!
We're looking for someone who can come on contract-to-hire and is technical enough to actually work with the product team, not just do copywriting.
One note so I know you read this: We're currently only looking for hire in the state of Nebraska. No overseas applications, probably not even out of state right now but maybe for the right person.

About the role
AI is the new front door to every service business. When someone asks ChatGPT, Google AI, or Perplexity "who's the best shop near me," we make sure real businesses get named. We do it by turning actual completed work orders into content that AI engines trust and cite. We're looking for a writer who already understands how these engines read, weigh, and repeat information, and who can turn that understanding into words that get picked up. You'll write, you'll help build the system that writes at scale, and you'll own the content relationship with real customers who are counting on results.
Why this role exists
Most content on the internet is generic AI slop, and the engines know it. Our edge is the opposite: real jobs, real details, real expertise from the shop floor. Turning that raw material into content that wins AI citations is part craft and part science. We need someone who lives at that intersection. You'll shape both sides of our content engine. Some days you're writing the piece yourself. Other days you're designing the prompts and training the system that produces hundreds of pieces for shops across the country. And every day, you're accountable to customers who expect their content to ship on time and perform.
What you'll do
- Own the content relationship for at least six customers from day one. Manage expectations, hit deadlines, and keep people happy while the work gets better every month.
- Write content engineered to be understood, trusted, and cited by AI search engines—not just ranked by traditional search.
- Design, test, and refine the prompts that power our AI writing system.
- Help train and improve that system over time, using real output and real results to make it sharper.
- Translate how large language models receive and prioritize information into practical writing and prompting standards our team can follow.
- Tie your work to outcomes. Care whether the content earns visibility, not just whether it reads well.
- Partner with product and marketing to keep our voice consistent across blogs, business profiles, and social content.
What you'll bring
- At least 5 years of copywriting experience with a portfolio that proves it.
- At least 2 years working hands-on with AI prompting systems, enough to explain what you've learned and how today's models behave.
- Real experience managing customer relationships in a production environment.
- A real understanding of how AI engines take in and evaluate information, and what makes writing more or less likely to get surfaced.
- An analytical brain. You connect your writing to value and can defend your choices with more than "it sounds good."
Nice to have
- SEO experience, especially thinking beyond keywords toward topical authority and AI search.
- Familiarity with service trades such as auto repair, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
- Experience building or refining content systems, style guides, or prompt libraries.
