Come work with me! We are hiring a freelance writer-editor for Future Matters' policy work and thought leadership. Future Matters works on climate policy, AI governance, and biosecurity across the US, UK, EU, and the German federal level. Blog pieces, strategy guides, briefings, donor updates, talks, op-eds: Each piece (public or not) has to convince a specific reader of specific action, answer the objections they will raise, and often give them a political reason to act. Sometimes that will mean finishing a near-final draft; sometimes coaching our policy staff on direction, audience, and scope from an early stage.
The work is editorial at the level of the argument, not only prose-level copywriting. Four things matter most to us:
1. Persuasiveness – make a recommendation land and stick with sharp expert readers, sometimes with policymakers, without sensationalising.
2. Instructiveness – change what audiences do, not only what they think. A reader should finish knowing what to do on Monday.
3. Credibility – calibrated claims, sound argument structure, well-sourced evidence. You spot the weak inference before anyone else does!
4. Audience range – from US security professionals to European climate progressives, with an ear for where audiences contradict each other.
We're not looking for a maximally safe institutional voice nor technical writing. This is political, persuasive writing about our analytical thinking, methodologies and policy successes, often for expert readers who notice shortcuts and sometimes for non-experts who need a story they can follow.
Practicalities: freelance, ~15–20 hrs/week, €65–90 / $75–100 per hour, remote within 3–4 hours of CET, English essential and German a bonus, starting July or August. #PolicyComms #ThinkTankJobs #AIGovernance

Freelance, remote, near Central European time.
Near-final drafts or early-stage coaching: help finish pieces that land.
Future Matters is a think tank working on climate policy, AI governance, and biosecurity — across the US, UK, EU, and the German federal level. Strategy guides, policy briefings, op-eds: the pieces need to convince readers of specific actions, address their objections, use the right frames, and often give them political reasons to act.
A copywriter.
An editor who restructures the argument, not just the prose.
This might mean 5–10 years of editorial work in a policy, think-tank, or applied-research context. Not only dry or maximally risk-averse prose — writing that is political and persuasive, for expert audiences who notice shortcuts.
Make a finding land, stick, and get repeated — without ever sensationalising for sharp, expert readers.
Change what audiences actually do, not just what they think — they should know what to do on Monday.
Calibrated claims, sound argument structure, credible and well-sourced evidence — you catch the logical gap before a critic does.
From US security professionals to European climate progressives — and alert to the contradictions between them.
Send a short note — and a few samples.
Show us the tones and audiences you've served, before/after edits, or pieces where you shaped the structure — not just polished the prose.
