We’re a small but fast-growing digital marketing agency based in Nairobi and Johannesburg. We advise startups and established businesses in Africa, the US, and UK on digital marketing strategies, with a focus on content and SEO.

Our founder takes a hands-on approach, working closely with a select group of businesses to offer in-depth, collaborative support – rather than scaling to a huge, full-service agency.

Many of the tasks required to deliver this personalized service are the same across each client. So, we’re investing heavily in automating and systemizing everything we do with the help of AI tools.

We’re seeking a versatile Virtual Assistant with experience in SEO, content marketing, agency operations, and AI workflows.

The role offers a flexible schedule. We’ll never ask you to work on weekends, and no team member has any work apps on their phones – so we don’t expect you to.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll contribute to every area of the business, and assist the founder in personal tasks related to running the company (ie, travel, networking, social events).

The list below is an overview of potential tasks you’ll complete week-to-week.

1. Client Work

  • Assist in general SEO tasks, including but not limited to: keyword research, competitor analysis, content briefs, technical audits, on-page improvements
  • Light editing and updating of client content
  • General industry research
  • Transcribing meetings, voice notes, and other media related to client relations
  • Basic graphic design
  • Assist in presentations and proposals
  • AI-powered first drafts, content analysis, and more

2. Agency Operations

  • Invoices and bookkeeping, including followups and reminders for overdue payments
  • Drafting contracts and sending for signature
  • Transcribing sales calls and creating summaries/next steps
  • Assisting with newsletter planning, research, and content
  • Creating misc graphics on Canva
  • Transcribing podcasts, courses, and similar materials, including keeping an up-to-date AI prompt library
  • Keeping Conor’s Calendly account and availability up-to-date
  • Creating SOPs, basic automations, and similar misc. operational tasks
  • Basic P&L and expense reporting

3. Personal Tasks (for Conor Walsh)

  • Booking flights, transport, and accommodation for work-related trips
  • Find personal activities in cities he’s visiting (ie, salsa socials and classes, beach volleyball)
  • LinkedIn outreach and networking
  • Consolidating contacts for regulator networking and relationship-building
  • Identifying events and networking opportunities online and IRL in relevant cities
  • General troubleshooting and research (ie, find a software tool for a specific use case, find email addresses for people I want to meet)
  • Keeping Conor’s calendars up-to-date
  • Researching and making small purchases (ie, electronics)
  • Paying recurring personal bills (ie, apartment electricity, water charges, internet, etc.

Qualifications & Skills

  1. Minimum 1 year of experience in a digital marketing role
  2. Proficient in the following software:
    1. Google Workspace
    2. Project management tools (ClickUp, Notion, Slack, etc.)
    3. SEO tools (GA4, GSC, ahrefs, etc.)
    4. Canva
    5. beehiiv (or another email provider)
    6. AI tools – specifically ChatGPT 4 and Claude
    7. Loom
    8. WordPress
    9. Zoho Books
    10. Calendly
    11. Wise and/or Revolut Business
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication
  4. Strong research and fact-checking skills
  5. Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote environment while communicating your progress and any issues effectively
  6. Able to learn quickly, pivot, and take direct feedback (You’ll be working with Irish people. We’re blunt, but lovable.)
  7. A high tolerance for GIFs as a means of communication
  8. Experience in the following areas will is a major plus:
    1. Email marketing and/or newsletters
    2. SOP creation
    3. Event planning
    4. Financial tracking and management
    5. Community management

🚨 Note on AI use. We are happy to incorporate AI into every aspect of our business, but expect transparency and critical thinking. If we feel you’re over-relying on AI to the extent its negatively impacting your work, or using it without disclosing so, this will be grounds for termination.

Compensation

Rate: $10/hour

Hours: 10 per week to start

Pay: $400/month to start
