B2C Content Writing, Technical Writing, Design and Video

Hiring! We're looking for a kickass tech writer.

Somebody who knows gravel, road, and mountain bikes backward and forward. Solid, clear writing. Podcast and video experience a plus (or the confidence to learn them quickly).

We'll never ask you to write a top-10 list of products you've never seen let alone tested, or alter your opinion to appease an advertiser. We will ask you to be fair and honest.

Escape is member-funded. That means your work needs to be so good that people will pay for it. Think you can do it? Hit us up.

Role: Tech Writer

We seek a creative writer and reporter who wants to bring their passion for bicycle equipment and technology to a worldwide audience. The ideal candidate lives and breathes bikes, loves tinkering, and can translate their zeal into writing, audio, and video. An underlying knowledge and interest in this beat is more important to us than degrees or formal qualifications.

We are a member-funded media company. Your job will be to produce content so good and so compelling that people will pay for it - if that sounds like something you can do, keep reading.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Produce world-class, in-depth reviews of the products our members and audience care most about
  • Stay on top of tech- and equipment-related news and trends
  • Provide unique, high-quality coverage of significant events
  • Appear on podcasts and, occasionally, video
  • Represent Escape Collective at tech events worldwide

Experience and skills:

A good tech writer has a broad range of skills. The following are high priority:

  • Broad background knowledge of bicycle tech, including road, mountain, gravel, cyclocross, and urban disciplines
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and experience (shop experience preferred)
  • Comfortable expressing opinions and capable of backing them up with evidence
  • Strong writing skills with a distinctive voice
  • An infallible sense of personal integrity
  • Excellent grasp of English grammar and usage and an ability to produce clean copy and hit deadlines

And the following are nice to have, but can also be taught/learned on the job:

  • Proficient in still photography
  • Comfortable on video and podcasts
  • Experience using Adobe editing products (Photoshop, Lightroom)
  • Experience working in content management systems (CMS)
  • Comfortable working with a global team across multiple time zones via tools like Slack

Who we are

Escape Collective believes that cycling is the most beautiful sport on earth. We wake up each morning to showcase its riches to those who love it, and to instill newcomers with the same passion we hold.

We believe this is a sport for everyone, and seek to see that reflected in our workplace. We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds and never require specific degrees or certifications for consideration.

Location

Fully remote with a preference for US-based. Frequent travel is guaranteed.

Pay

Salary range of US $35,000 to $75,000, depending on experience. Individuals outside of Australia work as contractors and anybody US-based will receive a health care stipend.

To apply

Email your CV and two writing samples to caley.fretz@escapecollective.com. Writing samples do not need to be previously published work, but they can be if you want. At least one should relate to the topics and beats covered by the position you’re applying for.
