Since joining the Her Campus Team, contributors have been offered jobs and internships with top media outlets including Vogue, The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, Netflix, Meta, Cosmopolitan, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Bustle, TikTok, and more. Becoming a Her Campus National Writer will give you applicable experience in the editorial industry, along with the opportunity to be published on a national digital publication! Current undergraduate students and recent grads (up to two years post-graduation) are eligible to apply for all national sections. Positions are unpaid. The following outlines the types of National Writers at Her Campus, as well as their roles and responsibilities.
How It Works
Writers select the section(s) they wish to write for and are assigned to a national editor, but have the option to contribute across sections. Writers are required to sign up for two four-hour shifts per month, where they work with their editor on pitching and writing timely news. Writers will also work on one to two weekly assignments per month, which are more in-depth pieces that may have a service or feature element. The pitch-to-live time for a weekly assignment is about one week. Writers are encouraged to add their own voice to articles and communicate their unique perspective. Reported news features, columns, and op-eds can also be discussed, workshopped, and pitched with your editor and are absolutely encouraged.

- Opportunity to receive internship credit (pending individual school policy)

Sections TO WRITE FOR
Style
Style writers cover style trends, college fashion, decor, and everything in between. You know how to accessorize, build a look for the right price, find hidden gems at the thrift store, and hype favorite pieces in your closet and your dorm room — all through a college student lens. We also encourage you to apply if you are a style Instagram blogger who has a finger on the pulse of trends and a passion for discovering the latest brands.
Beauty
If you have a shelf overflowing with skin care or if you know how to pull off a makeup look for less, then we want to work with you! Writers cover industry trends and products, and create service-oriented pieces surrounding the unique beauty moments that students experience in college. Face masks, Sephora sales, brow shaping, scalp scrubs, body hair, nail art, morning rituals — the sky’s the limit for beauty obsessives.
ENTERTAINMENT
If you’re passionate about celebrities, the biggest movies hitting the box office, binge-watching Netflix, or whatever wild meme is taking over the internet, write about it here. This position is an excellent opportunity for pop culture junkies who want to develop their writing skills while keeping college women up to date on the world.
Wellness
These writers are experts in the college wellness space and feel comfortable writing expert-backed advice pieces about topics ranging from mental health to exercise to sexual health. If you know how to balance self-care with finals week stress or you’re ready to walk a friend through her first trip to the gyno, this topic is a perfect fit. Yoga, vitamins, meditation, periods, birth control, anxiety — yes, we really talk about it all.
Sex & Relationships
Sex and relationships writers are experts in the college dating scene — and they’re the person you rely on when it comes to navigating first-time sex, hookups, LDRs, dating apps, ghosting, breakups, and more. We’re looking for voicey writers excited to dig in deeper to sex and dating, and who are also comfortable with topics surrounding sexuality, gender, and identity.
Money & Career
Career writers help college students gain career insight and experience, both in college and in the real world post-grad. During a typical day you might write about internship interviews, negotiating your first salary, launching a side hustle, and navigating student loans. If this sounds like a fit, we’d love to work with you!
Lifestyle
Lifestyle writers cover everything current in the lifestyle space for college women, and they serve as experts on advice for both high school and current college students. This position is the perfect opportunity for lifestyle writers who want to talk about the latest campus protests, navigating orientation week, making friends, acing your tests, and more. We’re particularly on the lookout for people passionate about campus life, friendship, food, and travel — so let us know if that’s you!
Her20s
Her20s is our after college section, covering all things post-grad life. We’re looking for experienced writers excited to talk about adulting, first apartments, office culture, real-world relationships, and the big moments that happen in your 20s.
