Bonsai Digital is hiring a short-form copywriter on a 3-month fixed-term contract (end of April through end of July 2026) to cover a maternity leave, with the possibility of it becoming something longer.

- 3+ years in an agency environment or a solid background in freelance writing
- Proven capability in writing for social, web, and email
- Some exposure to brand messaging and content strategy

The details:
- Part-time: 50 hours/month
- Fully remote
- Work can be flexible within the day, but must occur between 8am–6pm. This role is not suited to someone with a full-time job.

About the Role

We’re looking for a short-form copywriter on a 3-month fixed term contract between the end of April and the end of July 2026 to cover a team member’s maternity leave, with potential to expand into a longer-term relationship.

Our ideal candidate brings a high personal standard for quality, thrives with independence, and is comfortable shaping work from a loose brief into a strong final product. This role suits someone who enjoys variety, ownership, and close collaboration with a small team.

You will be integral in upholding the overall quality of work produced at Bonsai. 

What You’ll Do

• Write across formats: social media, websites, email, and brand messaging.
• Shape content from early ideas through to a finished draft using your internal benchmark for quality.
• Work closely with the team, offering thoughtful input and being a proactive participant in developing ideas. 
• Move between multiple projects at once, keeping work organised and on track.
• Manage your own workload and deadlines without close supervision.

What We’re Looking For

Core Qualities

• A strong internal bar for quality.
• Ability to take a vague or open brief and shape it into something impactful with minimal oversight.
• Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
• Takes accountability for deadlines, communication, and outcomes.

Experience

• 3+ years in an agency environment or a solid background in freelance writing.
• Proven capability in writing for social, web, and email.
• Some exposure to brand messaging and content strategy, or willingness to learn quickly.
• Canva design experience is helpful but not essential.

Availability

• 50 hours per month.
• Work can be flexible within the day, but must occur between 8am–6pm (this role is not suited to someone with a full-time job).

• Interested in developing networking skills and representing the company at events. Any new clients brought in by you would give you 7.5% of profits from that client in addition to your base retainer.

4. Trial Task

You’ll then complete a paid trial task that reflects the type of work you’d do at Bonsai. 

5. Final Decision

We’ll finish with a short call or email to share the outcome. If you’re the right fit, we’ll walk you through the next steps. If not, we’ll offer constructive feedback to support your growth moving forward.
