Position Overview: The Senior Video Editor will engage in video editing to create educational video content in support of MIT Open Learning. The Senior Video Editor must be an accomplished video storyteller, with deep experience in the editing of multiple video genres, including educational videos, documentary videos, promotional videos, and social media. The Senior Video Editor must have deep experience in the creation of 2D motion graphics, and all aspects of non-linear video editing, including audio editing and mixing, and color correction.

The Senior Video Editor must have expertise with video editing and graphics software, especially the Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Premiere, AfterEffects, Photoshop, and Illustrator. In addition, the Senior Video Editor must have deep experience with digital video formats, files, and other post-production tools, as well as significant competency in all aspects of video planning and production.

The Senior Video Editor will use these skills to engage in the planning, design, and execution of the video component of educational programs created by MIT Open Learning. They will be responsible for executing and maintaining the overall design and “look and feel” of videos across multiple courses and programs, and ensuring the timely delivery of video assets, as well as proper project organization, documentation and archiving.

The Senior Video Editor will work with the Managing Video Editor, Open Learning Video Director, and other Open Learning staff to conceive and implement effective educational video strategies for new OL programs and products. The Senior Video Editor will be responsible for executing these strategies during the post-production phase of video creation. The Senior Video Editor should have five or more years of experience in the creation of complex educational video programs, and demonstrated expertise in best educational video practices.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: This position is part of a team-based service delivery model that depends on real-time, in-person work with the Open Learning Video Team and other internal partners. In-person presence in Cambridge, MA is an essential function of this role for access to recording and editing equipment which are located on campus, to reduce delivery times during the iterative creative process, and to deepen knowledge of our offerings by working in person with course teams.

Senior Video Editor is required to work in person on the MIT campus in Cambridge, MA a minimum of 2 days a week. The Hybrid schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the video team, Open Learning, or MIT.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience creating, producing, editing, and packaging media content in a variety of formats required.
  • Deep experience in documentary storytelling, educational video editing, and 2D graphics creation.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • Experience delivering complex media-driven educational projects.

Preferred: 5-7 years of creative video editing experience, including significant higher education experience.
