The Job

The Opportunity

Our client is a global healthcare communications agency working at the forefront of medical affairs, clinical studies, real-world evidence, marketing, advocacy, and communications. With an international footprint spanning multiple continents and a heritage stretching back over two decades, they combine deep scientific expertise with creative strategy to drive meaningful change in healthcare.

They are now seeking a Senior Medical Writer to join their London-based Medical Practice team. This is a senior, client-facing role for someone who can produce consistently high-quality scientific content, lead client relationships, and support the development of junior colleagues.

The Role

As Senior Medical Writer, you will own content delivery across multiple accounts without compromising on quality. You will be recognised as a therapeutic area expert, with a deep understanding of scientific data and how it aligns with client brand strategy. In addition to your own output, you will play an active role in reviewing and upskilling junior writers on your accounts.

Key Responsibilities

Content & Accountability

  • Independently produce work aligned to client briefs, meeting or exceeding expectations with minimal review
  • Develop a broad range of scientific and medical content, demonstrating command of complex data and communicating it effectively
  • Lead client review meetings, presenting work confidently and receiving feedback constructively.

Client Services

  • Act as the primary editorial and scientific contact for your allocated accounts
  • Build strong working relationships with client partners, KOLs, medical experts, and external suppliers
  • Stay ahead of industry developments and provide proactive, informed counsel to clients
  • Identify and capitalise on business development opportunities within existing accounts.

Project Management

  • Manage multiple projects and accounts simultaneously, maintaining quality and meeting timelines
  • Advise on budget scoping and timeline development, with detailed knowledge of project delivery pathways
  • Guide junior team members in task prioritisation and resource planning.

People & Development

  • Oversee and review the work of junior colleagues, providing clear direction, constructive feedback, and supporting knowledge transfer
  • Mentor and coach junior writers, supporting their long-term professional development and helping them apply feedback strategically.

What You'll Need

  • A minimum of 3 years working as a Medical Writer, creating a wide range of medical and scientific documents to a high standard
  • Experience reviewing junior colleagues' work for style, strategy, content accuracy, and data integrity
  • Line management experience with junior medical writers
  • A strong track record of managing and growing client relationships in a healthcare communications environment
  • Confidence leading formal client meetings and providing clear, strategic counsel
  • An ability to identify and capitalise on business development opportunities

What’s on Offer

  • 5% employer pension contribution
  • Private medical insurance (for you and your family)
  • Critical Illness and Income Protection cover
  • Travel insurance (for you and your family)
  • Annual wellness benefit (after 3 months’ service)
  • Hybrid working (3 days per week in the London office)
  • 25 days’ holiday, rising to 30 days with length of service, plus bank holidays
  • Life assurance at 4x salary
  • Paid sabbaticals after 5 years’ service
  • 1 week per year dedicated to learning and development
