Bloomberg Media is looking for an editor to join our Bloomberg Weekend team in London (though this editor will work a regular Monday-Friday schedule). The senior editor will commission distinctive essays, dispatches, and enterprise features, drawing on both Bloomberg writers and a network of freelancers with regional or topical expertise.

Bloomberg Weekend is a weekly collection of idea-driven stories about the global economy, politics, life and culture, designed to help our readers take advantage of their weekend time to expand their thinking and look ahead. The package aims to deepen engagement with our existing audience while attracting new subscribers through ambitious, thought-provoking storytelling. The successful candidate will have a keen eye for intriguing and consequential ideas and stories at the intersections of finance, business, culture and politics — equally comfortable commissioning an essay on a major geopolitical development as editing a dispatch on an emerging cultural trend or a review of a new film. Extensive regional knowledge, including Africa and the Middle East, is required.

We’ll trust you to:

• Build and develop a strong roster of freelance contributors and expert voices, both recurring writers and specialists who can weigh in on big stories and major global developments.
• Recruit internal contributors from bureaus across the region and work with reporting teams to solicit pitches and commission idea-driven stories. Coach reporters on writing in new formats, and build ongoing relationships through edits that elevate their work.
• Develop and edit essays, dispatches, reviews, and enterprise stories and sometimes pitch and write pieces yourself, balancing big ambitious pieces with faster essays and dispatches that give context to the news. We are looking for journalists with exceptional editing skills, who can help make the quality of our writing stand out both within Bloomberg and against our competitors.
• Work alongside the Mishal Husain Show team to help produce the Weekend Interview (a text version of this weekly interview podcast). This includes editing the conversation for length and clarity, and contextualizing it with thoughtful annotations for readers.
• Collaborate with design, audience, production, and other media teams to build out high-touch stories, including visuals, audio and video, and to promote them effectively

You’ll need to have:

• 7+ years of experience in a digital news environment, including experience working directly in a content-management system
• A substantial grounding in business, geopolitics and economics, as well as interest and experience writing and editing in other subject areas — for example, finance, culture and lifestyle
• A proven track record of collaboration with newsroom and media platform teams
• A strong understanding of how digital audiences are evolving, analytics and the digital subscription ecosystem
• The ability to network and build relationships across our large global newsroom, and among freelancers throughout the region
• Experience commissioning and editing long-form and enterprise journalism for an intelligent, global audience with high expectations
• Entrepreneurialism, flexibility and a willingness to pitch in to help colleagues
