Overview 

USA Today Entertainment is seeking a Royals Writer/Reporter for our coverage of the British royal family. This role will focus on delivering fast, accurate, and engaging news, features, and analysis about the British royal family. The ideal candidate will help grow and define a new vertical within our entertainment content, leveraging cutting-edge AI tools and vertical video storytelling to reach a broad, digital-first audience.Coverage may also include first ladies and other similar dignitaries. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Generate original news stories, features, and analysis on the British royal family, including major events, public appearances, controversies, and lifestyle coverage. 
  • Develop and maintain reliable contacts and sources within the royals space to ensure exclusive and authoritative reporting. 
  • Monitor breaking news and trending topics related to the British royal family and other similar dignitaries. 
  • Produce timely, accurate, and compelling content in various formats, including written articles, and vertical video segments. 
  • Utilize AI-driven tools for research, trend analysis, and content optimization to maximize reach and engagement. 
  • Collaborate with editors and multimedia teams to conceptualize and create visually engaging vertical video and social-first content. 
  • Participate in editorial meetings, pitch new story ideas, and contribute to the strategic growth of USA Today's royals coverage. 
  • Adhere to the highest standards of journalistic ethics, including fact-checking and source verification. 

Requirements: 

  • At least 3 to 5 years of reporting or writing in entertainment journalism. 
  • Experience as a writer or reporter in royal family coverage or celebrity news. 
  • Network of contacts and sources within the royals beat. 
  • Demonstrated ability to produce fast, accurate, and engaging content under tight deadlines. 
  • Experience using AI tools for news gathering and story production. 
  • Comfort and proficiency with creating vertical video content for platforms such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. 
  • Excellent news judgment and an ability to identify stories that resonate with a broad audience. 
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic, collaborative team.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $60,000 (£44,589) and $97,350 (£69,670). Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience. Note: variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable.
