Relay Publishing is looking for creative, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven Developmental and Line Editors to help craft addictive, emotionally charged romance novels—whether that’s billionaire bosshole rom-coms full of snappy banter and sizzling chemistry, or high-stakes SEAL and military romances packed with action, passion, and heart.

We’re seeking editors with a deep understanding of either (or both) sub-genres, who can help our authors deliver stories that readers will binge, share, and fall in love with.

Job Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will:

• Review manuscripts at both a story and sentence level, addressing character arcs, plot structure, pacing, romance progression, and conflict (internal and external).
• Apply developmental and line edits in a single pass (a must).
• Provide actionable feedback that enhances clarity, flow, and emotional resonance while meeting genre expectations.
• Collaborate with authors and project coordinators through clear, professional, and constructive communication.
• Ensure each manuscript aligns with its sub-genre conventions—whether that’s the snarky, grumpy-but-rootable billionaire hero and badass heroine of a rom-com, or the courageous, disciplined military hero and emotionally grounded heroine of a SEAL romance.
• Strengthen tension, humor, and intimacy throughout—whether through banter, high-stakes missions, or deeply felt moments of vulnerability.

Necessary Skills & Experience

• Extensive editing experience in romance fiction, with a focus on either billionaire bosshole or SEAL/military romance (bonus points for both).
• Deep familiarity with the genre’s leading authors and tropes. For example:
  • Billionaire Bosshole Romance: Lucy Score, Nicole Snow, Lauren Landish, Nadia Lee, Olivia Hayle.
  • SEAL/Military Romance: Susan Stoker, Cora Seton, Lynne St. James, Brittney Sahin, Suzanne Brockmann, Linda Howard.
• Strong instincts for pacing, tone, dialogue, and emotional beats.
• Comfort with intimate scenes, humor, and/or action sequences as appropriate to the sub-genre.
• Excellent developmental and line editing skills—story flow, showing vs. telling, character consistency, and dialogue polish.
• Proven track record of meeting deadlines and communicating proactively.

• A self-starter who loves the editing process and never misses deadlines.
