*Call for pitches* 📢
Next month (March), I'll be in the midst of a reporting trip supported by an AHCJ International Health Study Fellowship. During that time, I'll be contributing fewer story ideas to the Live Science health vertical than usual — but that's where you come in!

Live Science is always open to pitches from freelancers, but next month, the health vertical will be in particular need of news pitches. Here are a few tips for those interested in throwing their hats in the ring:

—Prior to writing your pitch, review our recent health coverage and our pitch submission guidelines (linked below). Our Science Spotlight series and news analyses offer insight into areas of coverage that we've emphasized of late.

—Keep in mind that we write for a general-but-science-interested audience, rather than for scientists, policymakers or industry stakeholders.

—If you haven't written for us before, include a few published clips, as well as your resume/CV, a short bio or a portfolio link, along with your pitch.

—*Send a pitch, not only your resume.* The fastest route to working with us is to send pitches that we can vet and provide feedback on; a resume is helpful for establishing your qualifications, but it's not sufficient for getting you an assignment.

—And please note: We get a lot of emails. While we love the enthusiasm, we'd prefer you didn't send a million pitches in one day. 🙏

For news stories, rates range from $250 to $400 (or the equivalent in your local currency). We pay by story type, rather than word count, with stories that require more reporting having the higher rates.
