The War Horse News is looking for freelance pitches.

We're interested in reported stories, investigations, accountability journalism, and deeply reported features that reveal the human impact of military service, war, and national security policy.

That could mean a story about a veteran navigating a broken system. A military family carrying an invisible burden. A policy decision whose consequences are being felt far from Washington. Or an institution that deserves closer scrutiny.

The best War Horse stories don't just tell us what happened. They show us why it matters, who is affected, what larger pattern it reveals, and why readers should care.

We're especially interested in work that is rigorous, humane, specific, and written for smart readers who may not know the military.

We pay for assigned freelance work, with most assignments falling between $1,000 and $3,500, and higher rates available for major investigations and ambitious enterprise reporting.
