Apartment Therapy Lifestyle Holidays, Events, & Observances Freelance Pitches (April-June 2026)
The Apartment Therapy Lifestyle team — which includes the Life, Cleaning, Organizing, and Real Estate verticals — is looking for pitches centered on holidays, events, and observances that occur during the months of April, May, and June. Rates start at $150, but vary based on assignment. We'll be accepting pitches until March 13.
These should be: personal essays, unique perspectives, reported features, profiles of brands and people, or history deep dives tied to upcoming holidays, celebrations, observances, and other timely events and fit comfortably into any of our Lifestyle verticals. We're not looking for listicles on how to celebrate or commemorate these holidays/observances, rather personal perspectives on how these intersect with you and your life at home.
Examples of stories we're looking for: I Finally Bought a Green Velvet Couch — Then, I Found a Community of Black Women Just Like Me, I Moved to a Thriving LGBTQ+ Neighborhood in Chicago. Here’s How It Changed My Life, The “Japanese Goodbye” Ritual That Brings Me So Much Joy, Why Taking Your Shoes Off is More Than Just a Clean Habit — It’s a Sign of Respect, “Extreme Cleaning” Took Over My Life — Here’s How I Reined It In, What Modern Buildings Can Learn from Indigenous Architecture, A Trip to Mexico Changed the Way I View My Hispanic Heritage — and My Approach to Home, I Did Dry January and I’m Actually Keeping these 5 Lifestyle Changes
What Makes a Good Pitch?
Successful pitches for these moments should fall neatly into one of these Lifestyle verticals. Life vertical is all about our relationship to our homes, whether it's a way you celebrate or embrace your personality or identity there, something that changed the way you live at home, or connects you to your culture. The Cleaning and Organizing verticals can touch on your relationship with keeping a clean and organized home as it intersects with your identity and culture. Real Estate handles buying, selling, and living in our homes and can include your own personal journey to homeownership (any ties to identity, family history, and anything else that makes you, you.)
How to Structure Your Pitch
Please include a working headline, brief description of the pitch (few sentences to two paragraphs at most), and what holiday/observance/event you are pitching about. Share if this is a personal piece or will require sources (and if you already have them in mind). If there is a holiday that is missing from this list, feel free to pitch that as well.
