💡 DW Freedom, the media development think tank at DW Akademie, is seeking an experienced Newsletter Editor to produce our quarterly newsletter. If you’re passionate about storytelling and media development, this job is for you.

DW Freedom seeks an experienced newsletter editor with an enthusiasm for storytelling outside the box to design, produce and publish the think tank's quarterly newsletter.

DW Freedom is the media development think tank at DW Akademie. We gather data and insights and generate strategies for resilient information ecosystems and freedom of expression for everyone. We work together with our regional departments and partner organizations from around the world. Our three focus areas are:


AI for Good Media: Focuses on integrating AI in the media sector in an inclusive and human rights-based manner. By involving experts from various fields, DW Freedom aims to develop ethical and inclusive AI strategies that benefit the Global Majority.


Financing of Journalism: Addresses the financial crisis facing independent journalism, intensified by Big Tech and AI using journalistic content without compensation. DW Freedom raises awareness, builds coalitions, and advocates for sustainable funding and fair compensation to protect public interest media as a public good.


Dialogue Against Polarization: Examines the shifting dynamics of public discourse. By promoting inclusive and constructive public dialogue, DW Freedom aims to counteract polarization and disinformation. This helps amplify underrepresented voices and fosters a healthier public discourse.

Required Services:

DW Freedom seeks an experienced newsletter editor with an enthusiasm for storytelling outside the box to design, produce and publish the think tank’s quarterly newsletter.
Scope of Work: Main tasks include producing, writing and editing DW Freedom’s quarterly newsletter, through:

  • researching and developing ideas for rich and engaging content related to media development,
  • planning and preparation of the newsletter editions,
  • proofreading and editing prepared texts to fit in with the newsletter style,
  • working with the in-house software to publish and distribute the newsletter, and
  • optimising the newsletter based on monitoring metrics.

Competencies

  • Excellent line editing and headline-writing skills
  • Demonstrable experience of gathering and packaging news and information in the field of media development
  • Proven skills in sharp commentary and thoughtful analysis
  • Ideally experienced in the use of the newsletter tool "Promio"
  • Experience writing and editing in the three DW Freedom focus areas is desirable
  • Fluent English language skills

Time frame for service provision

The implementation of the project runs from May 1, 2026, until March 31, 2027, with the option to extend the contract.
The number of contractual days will be up to 12 days overall. Exact working days will be determined throughout the course of the project.
