I'm hiring! I'm looking for a contract marketing specialist to help grow my coaching business and help more people connect with WIMDI's amazing work and resources.

The role is a fun mix of projects -- strategy, PR, content curation, SEO, email marketing, and social -- and takes about 7-10 hours per week. We work remote and on a flexible schedule, so it's a great fit if you're looking to add to your existing mix of client work, dip your toes back into working part-time after a leave, or just start a moonlighting side-hustle.

WIMDI + Holly Burton Coaching & Consulting | Part-Time Contract

I'm looking for my first part-time Marketing Specialist. The role will help me grow my executive coaching business (hollyburton.ca) and the size and impact of one of its main marketing channels, WIMDI (wimdi.com).

About The Business

I run a B2C coaching and consulting business. My clients are intermediate and senior-level women working in male-dominated industries.

I do one-on-one coaching and consulting services, including:

  • Leadership and executive coaching
  • Career strategy consulting
  • Negotiation coaching & consulting
  • Job search consulting (eg: resumes, cover letters, job interview preparation, etc)

I run group coaching programs focused around career and leadership skills, and I also have a small team of contract coaches I work with who use my coaching model and take on clients I'm too busy to serve.

I do a fair number of speaking engagements each year for conferences, women’s community non-profits, and for-profit companies. My talks, like my work, focus on career & leadership topics, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion.

You can learn more about my coaching, consulting, and speaking services at hollyburton.ca and wimdi.com/work-with-us.

About WIMDI

Women in Male-Dominated Industries (WIMDI) is a 4000+ member community focused on helping women in male-dominated industries network, advance their careers, and improve their leadership. We were founded in-person in Vancouver, BC in 2015, but are hybrid online and in-person since 2020. Our membership is primarily in North America, but we’re expanding to have members all over the world.

WIMDI serves our audience through several channels:

  • Interactive Webinars on Career & Leadership Topics (12 per year)
  • Virtual Small-Group Networking Events (12 per year)
  • Long-Form Articles on our Blog
  • Downloadable Guides & Cheat Sheets
  • Video (Webinar Recordings & Short Video)
  • Social Media

We produce our original webinar content in collaboration with our speakers. We have a strong editorial lens and we're really involved in crafting speaker content -- nearly TED talks-levels of editorial control & assistance. Our blog content is produced in-house now, but we have aspirations to source blog content externally once we have the bandwidth to source and edit writers' contributions. WIMDI has a small team of volunteers who help with key tasks.

You can learn more about WIMDI at wimdi.com.

The Problem You Solve in This Role

My current business challenge is the classic service provider dilemma: My schedule is jam-packed with client work and I’m struggling to keep up with my own marketing. I need even more of a marketing push to build the business to where I want it to be, but I’m all out of hours in my calendar. That's where this role comes in.

Your main focus in this role will be two-fold:

  • Growing WIMDI to build the pipeline of client leads
  • Freeing up my time by taking marketing and operations work off my plate so I can do more billable work and continue building the stuff that only I can build (key pieces of IP, coaching programs, etc)

Key Ongoing Responsibilities

Why Will This Be The Most Fun Job Ever?

You get to build an amazing business that supports women with me. You’ll get to write hilarious, irreverent copy for our Very Serious, Very Professional™ website, social channels, and newsletters. You’ll get a crash course in how to weave diversity, equity, and inclusion into every business decision you make and learn how to infuse feminist principles into your marketing. Estimated Total Weekly Hours

Contract Length

1 year

Pay Range

$50-100 per hour, depending on experience & fit

Remote Work? Flexible Hours?

Yes to both. I’m based in Vancouver, BC and work on PST. We’ll need to meet virtually several times a week during business hours but you have a lot of latitude to design your own work schedule. So, if you’re a mom on mat leave, someone with kid pick-up and drop-off duty, someone with other caregiving responsibilities, or even just someone who loves a good midday workout, you can definitely apply knowing we can work with your schedule.

How to Apply

First of all, if you only meet like 60% of the things in the bullet points, just apply, damnit! I coach women all the time who don’t apply unless they meet 110% of what the job ad says, and I don’t want you falling into that trap. Just apply!

Second of all, include the aforementioned “fun word” in the subject line of your email to send your application straight to the top of the pile. Hooray for detail-oriented folks!

Want to stand out from the crowd? Write me a cover letter or email intro that tells me the top three reasons why you think your skills can help me (and how!). BUT, if you’ve been looking at this post for 10 days, continuously promising you’ll write a great cover letter tomorrow, then just send me your resume and get it off your to do list. Done is better than perfect!

PS: Want to make sure your resume doesn’t get put in the “no” pile? Don’t use AI in your application! For all kinds of reasons (ethics, quality, etc), we don’t use AI extensively, and we have no plans to start. So if your cover letter or resume is written by AI or talks about leveraging AI, we will not consider that a strong fit. Interesting copy is an important component of this brand, and we want to hire someone who can write well themselves, not just instruct a chatbot to write for them. We want to pay a human to do this work, so please show us your weird and delightful human side!
