About the role
As the Lead Editor on the Content team, you'll be joining a collaborative team that focuses on sharing stories and information to help entrepreneurs thrive. We're seeking a sharp editor who is fluent in SEO best practices and excited to own our content reoptimization portfolio—the program that recovers and grows organic traffic by refreshing, restructuring, and re-ranking our existing library of evergreen educational content across our core and international markets. You'll ensure each reoptimized piece is thoroughly researched, well-written, and built to perform, all while flowing through an efficient, fast-paced editorial workflow that increasingly blends human editorial judgment with AI-powered production.
What you’ll do
-
Own the reoptimization portfolio end to end
- Partner with editorial and search to prioritize, schedule, and maintain the reoptimization calendar across core and international markets.
- Decide what gets refreshed, when, and why—and be accountable for the results.
-
Run the reoptimization machine day-to-day
- Act as the primary point of contact for content agencies, freelance writers, and localization partners.
- Assign work, manage reviews, and shepherd pieces from brief to publish, ensuring quality and performance gains at each step.
-
Build and scale workflows
- Design and refine processes from candidate selection through publishing, including the human + AI pipeline (refresh, translation, fact-checking, and QA).
- Turn one-off wins into repeatable systems.
-
Set and enforce editorial + SEO standards
- Help codify tone and style guidelines for SEO-specific and reoptimized content.
- Work with freelance and in-house writers, plus agency partners, to ensure everything we ship is on-voice, accurate, and built to rank.
-
Connect output to outcomes
- Partner with content management and SEO to define and evolve reoptimization best practices.
- Track traffic recovery, performance lift, and cost-per-URL efficiency; report portfolio health and insights to leadership.
-
Find the next opportunities
- Mine product updates, GTM plans, and market intel for reoptimization opportunities.
- Make sure our educational content reflects what Shopify is shipping and what merchants actually need.
Qualifications
-
Proven SEO content performance track record
- You’ve built roadmaps, workflows, calendars, and KPIs that improved SEO content performance—ideally including refresh or traffic-recovery programs.
-
Comfortable with data and tools
- You’re fluent in first-party data analysis and third-party tools like Ahrefs and Google Analytics, and you know how to turn insights into editorial decisions.
-
Human + AI editorial judgment
- You’re not just willing to use AI—you’ve helped design AI-assisted editorial workflows and know where automation helps and where human craft is non-negotiable.
-
Serious editing chops
- You can sharpen a strategic piece, rescue a tired one, and care deeply about clarity, pacing, usefulness, and accuracy—not just keyword placement.
-
Operationally minded and multi-market aware
- You’ve worked at scale, ideally across international or multi-market content.
- You think in systems and know how to keep a high-volume pipeline moving without sacrificing quality.
-
Collaborative, curious, flexible
- You’re comfortable working across content, SEO, product, GTM teams, and external vendors, and you’re motivated by building something better than what exists today. You’re also an excellent, nuanced communicator.
What you’re walking into
- A large, mature educational content library that’s both a major asset and a real responsibility. Some pieces are performing exactly as they should; others need a rethink.
- An editorial team that ships a high volume of strategic and byline work, with freelance and agency editors in the mix, and a high quality bar.
- Tooling you can lean on, and a lot of room to shape what comes next.
What you won’t walk into is a fully solved playbook. You’ll be writing it.
You’re a good fit if you:
- Are a fast, trusted editor who knows which calls matter and can make a tired article competitive again.
- Think in systems—if you do something twice by hand, you start designing how it should run on its own.
- Believe content has to keep earning its keep, and you’re as interested in the library you inherit as the pieces you publish.
- Are technically comfortable and tool-curious—you don’t need to be an engineer, but you want to understand how the machine works and where it could work better.
- Have operated in fast, high-volume, SEO-driven environments without letting quality slip.
Nice to have
- Experience with how search is evolving, including GEO and AEO.
- Familiarity with CMSs, editorial workflows, and automation.
- A track record of giving feedback to freelance or agency partners that actually changed the output.
- Comfort working with data partners and dashboards to understand whether the work landed.
About Shopify
Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.
This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.
About you
Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.
Before you apply, consider if you can:
- Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
- Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
- Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
- Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
- Bring critical thought and opinion
- Put AI agents and tools to work on the tasks they're built for, and focus on the work only humans can do
- Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
- Work digital-first for your daily work
