Looking for health care and science writers! At the risk of being inundated with responses, I'm a freelance health care and science writer AND managing editor of membership association magazines — which means I find and hire writers for my magazine clients. Most of my clients pay a flat rate based around $1/word.
I'm looking to expand my pool beyond the mostly white women (and a few men) I hire now. (Don't worry, my tried-and-trues, I will keep hiring you!).
So, if you are from a marginalized group — person of color, LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, person with a disability, etc. — who is a STRONG reporter and writer, here's what I'm looking for specifically:
🎯 B2C health care writers — you can do the research and interview clinicians and scientists but then translate it for a consumer/patient audience.
🔥 Science writers — you understand tough topics like physiology, neuroscience, cell biology, etc. and can interview researchers and write a compelling narrative magazine feature (for other scientists).
🎖️ Health care writers with an interest in writing about mental health for other mental health practitioners — you also know how to interview and write compelling narrative magazine features.
🎂 Profile writers — You can interview scientists and clinicians and pull out their interesting stories and write compelling profiles (not just a chronological bio).
If any of that describes you, please email me a letter of introduction with clips or links to your portfolio. And let me know what niche areas you love (ex. pediatric health care, the history of science, animal science, climate change, whatever it may be). Also, if you're a middle-aged white woman like me, it's still OK to send me an LOI!
