Growth marketer. The European Correspondent
Help us bring more readers into our community across Europe and turn them into our committed supporters.
Location: Remote, anywhere in Europe. Type: Freelance, 4 days/week. Reports to: Head of marketing. Starting date: mid-June 2026, latest 1 July 2026.
The European Correspondent is a non-profit European media organisation. We bring Europe's most relevant stories to around 80,000 citizens from all over the continent to build a European public discourse.
About the role
You'll work closely with our Head of marketing to grow our readership and our donor base across Europe. Your focus is bringing new readers in and making sure their first experience with us is a smooth one. You run the acquisition part of our funnel, from ad to an opted-in subscriber, to a donor.
What you'll be doing
- Run our paid social campaigns: brief designers, work with editorial to pick promotable stories, test new creatives and angles to avoid fatigue.
- Work with our language editors on localising our ad campaigns into the languages we publish in: German, Italian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Polish, French, and English.
- Improve our landing pages and sign-up flows so more visitors become TEC’s subscribers.
- Find new ways to reach our audience: lead magnets, partnerships, special offers.
- Set up and maintain attribution – UTM hygiene, pixel and server-side tracking, conversion event mapping.
- Weekly performance review with the Head of marketing.
What we’re looking for
- A minimum of two years of marketing experience, ideally in media, subscriptions, or non-profits, but we'll happily consider strong candidates from e-commerce, SaaS, or other industries.
- Hands-on experience with Meta Ads Manager: creating, testing, and optimising campaigns yourself.
- You can write. Ad copy, landing pages, sign-up flows. You write clearly and you know basic copywriting frameworks like AIDA, 4Cs or PAS.
- You're comfortable with numbers. You read dashboards, set up experiments, and understand the difference between key and vanity metrics.
- You're independent. You'll own your work without daily check-ins.
- You're a registered freelancer in an EU country or Ukraine.
- Excellent English.
Bonus points for
- Experience growing newsletters via organic and paid channels.
- Speaking one of the six other languages we publish in (German, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Ukrainian) is an advantage.
- Proven record of building effective landing pages and improving conversion rates.
- A genuine interest in journalism, democracy, and Europe.
What we offer
- Payment range: up to €2,500, depending on experience and location.
- Flexible, remote-first work culture based on trust and outcomes.
- A say in shaping an independent media start-up from the ground up.
- Significant potential to grow with the organisation as we expand fast.
- Access to a growing European network of journalists and content creators.
- A mission-driven team that values openness and experimentation.
- Location: if you're in Brussels, join us in our office, or work fully remotely from elsewhere.
