Grant Writer (Part-Time, Contract)

About Us
Operation Freedom Paws (OFP) is a nonprofit dedicated to saving lives at both ends of the leash. We pair rescued dogs with veterans, first responders, children, and others in need, empowering them to train their own service dog while gaining critical mental health support at no cost.
Position Overview
We are seeking a part-time Grant Writer to support our fundraising efforts through research, writing, and grant management. This role works directly with the Director of Development & Marketing and plays a key part in growing institutional funding.
This is a remote, independent contractor role ideal for someone who is self-motivated, organized, and experienced in nonprofit grant writing.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with OFP’s mission
- Write and submit Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) and full grant proposals
- Manage and maintain a grant pipeline tracker
- Prepare and submit grant reports for awarded funding (interim and final)
- Track deadlines, submissions, and outcomes
- Maintain all grant-related materials in a shared Google Drive
- Collaborate with the Director of Development on strategy and priorities
- Provide regular updates on progress and pipeline activity
Monthly Expectations
- Research 10–15 qualified grant prospects
- Submit 4–6 LOIs
- Complete 2–3 full grant proposals (based on deadlines)
- Maintain an organized and active grant pipeline
- Submit all required grant reports on time
Performance Goals
- Support securing $180,000 in annual grant funding
- Contribute toward a stretch goal of $200,000+
- Maintain a pipeline of 40–60 qualified prospects
- Show consistent progress moving opportunities through the pipeline
Work Structure
- Approximately 10 hours per week (up to 40 hours/month)
- Fully remote
- Weekly email updates summarizing activity and progress
- BiMonthly Zoom meetings with the Director of Development
Qualifications
- Proven experience in grant writing or nonprofit fundraising
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Experience researching and qualifying grant opportunities
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
- Experience with grant tracking tools or CRM systems is a plus
