News and Journalism

We’re hiring — come work with me at Devex.

If you’re a journalist who likes to follow the money, unpack power, and make sense of what’s actually shaping global health — this might be for you.

We’re looking for a reporter to cover global health from an insider lens — tracking funding shifts, institutional shakeups, and the people and politics driving change across the sector.

You’ll be writing for a highly engaged global audience and plugging into the conversations that are defining where global health goes next.

It's high expectations and you’ll need to hustle for your scoops.

But you’ll also be joining a tight-knit team of journalists who are (somehow) all genuinely nice, collaborative, and fun to work with!

Job Description

Are you a reporter who can dig into an industry beat, develop influential sources, and report on the people driving change? Are you passionate about making a name for yourself as a reporter by breaking news for a sophisticated and highly influential global audience?

Devex is looking for a reporter who can help us cover global health from an insider perspective. It’s one of the most consequential beats in the world today, and we need a reporter who can quickly develop sources and grow their expertise in this dynamic area.

We envision this full-time contractor position to be based in London, although we are open to candidates from other locations, especially global health hubs like Geneva. This is a role for a shoe-leather reporter who will be meeting with sources, attending events, and conducting interviews in person.

If you thrive on securing scoops, landing exclusive interviews, and translating complex issues into compelling journalism for a professional audience, this role could be for you.

You don’t need experience covering global health specifically but you must show a strong interest and passion for the topic, and you must demonstrate that you can be successful in this role. You should understand that our coverage of global health is about the money, power, and influence that drives the sector, and you should expect to develop influential sources across U.N. agencies, philanthropies, biopharma and technology companies, multilateral development banks, NGOs, health ministries, and more.

What you’ll do

You will report on the inside story of global health — tracking funding shifts, covering institutional shakeups, and unpacking for our audience the people and organizations that are driving change in this space. You’ll follow major initiatives and institutions such as the Global Fund, Gavi, CEPI, the Gates Foundation, and the World Health Organization.

In this high-octane role, you’ll be writing newsletters and exclusive stories from an insider’s perspective, and you’ll share your journalism on podcasts and on the Devex stage.

Your first year will look a little bit like this…

In your first 90 days, you’ll get up to speed on the key debates, people & institutions, and power dynamics shaping global health, while building a strong pipeline of sources across the sector. You’ll stay on top of breaking news, begin producing sharp analysis, and start developing the relationships needed to land exclusive reporting.

You’ll also build a strong understanding of your role within the wider Devex editorial team, working collaboratively with colleagues across beats — from development finance to climate — as well as with production, events, and audience teams.

By the end of your first year, you’ll have established yourself as a trusted voice in global health journalism, with a robust network of sources spanning multilaterals, governments, NGOs, and the private sector. You’ll be delivering a steady stream of exclusive, agenda-setting stories and helping to shape Devex’s coverage of major global health trends and debates.

You’ll also work to help hit our KPIs, which include increasing the number of Pro paid subscribers and newsletter opens. You’ll be open to feedback during regular performance reviews. And your reporting will help grow Devex’s influence, readership, and subscriber base — while shaping conversations in the global health community.

Required qualifications

  • At least several years of substantial experience as a reporter
  • Track record of producing scoops and delivering high-impact original reporting
  • Impressive source network that demonstrates you can build sources in this space
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage directly with readers
  • Complete command of English – both written and spoken
  • A bachelor’s degree

Nice-to-haves

Besides the basics, here’s what we’d love to see…

  • Global health experience and expertise
  • Experience working at a well-respected media organization
  • Comfort moderating panels, hosting podcasts, or speaking publicly
