IDEA is an EdTech company creating high-quality digital education content, platform and solutions for students and teachers globally. We believe in democratising access to education in Africa and across the world. Our work is meaningful: every multimedia content asset we build reaches a learner somewhere. We value people who are innovative, solution-focused, and take real ownership of their work.

The Role

A Brief Writer is where every IDEA lesson begins. You will translate curriculum requirements and learning goals into clear, structured, and engaging teaching content, the content design blueprint that our entire production team works from. If you understand how people learn, can make complex topics feel accessible, and care deeply about getting the details right, this role is for you.

What You Will Do

  • Develop structured lesson briefs from CAPS and ATP documents: this entails reading the official curriculum guidelines and transforming them into clear instructional plans, defining what must be taught, how it should flow, and what learners need to achieve at each stage.
  • Create interactive, learner-centred content in presentation format (PPTX): This means designing lessons that are not text-heavy but visually and conceptually engaging, structured slides that learners can listen to, see, and actively participate in.
  • Develop multimedia learning experiences including visuals, audio scripts, and learner notes: this includes sourcing or designing appropriate imagery, writing narration scripts for a voice-over artist, and providing structured notes for learners to retain key information; all within your brief.
  • Integrate interactive assessments and activities throughout each lesson: embedding feedback-driven tasks such labelling diagrams, matching columns, crosswords, simulations or creative build-and-design challenges - the aim is to make every lesson as active and engaging as possible.
  • Design assessments that progress through Bloom's Taxonomy. This means ensuring learners move from basic recall through to higher-order thinking — analysis, evaluation, and creation — across the course of a lesson or topic.
  • Participate in Brief QA and peer review. This means reviewing your own and others' briefs collaboratively, checking for curriculum accuracy, clarity, and instructional quality before content moves into production.
  • Implement feedback and finalise production-ready briefs. This means refining content based on QA input, correcting any gaps, and ensuring materials are complete and accurate before handover.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experienced knowledge of CAPS and ATPs: the ability to read and apply official curriculum documents in content development.
  • Ability to create learner-centred content that is interactive-heavy rather than text-heavy, with lessons that are scaffolded, age-appropriate, and promote active participation.
  • Experience designing assessments and learning tasks that support progression through Bloom's Taxonomy.
  • Strong written communication: you can explain complex ideas simply, in your own words, without lifting content directly from textbooks.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple briefs simultaneously.
  • Ability to write across multiple subjects is a bonus.
  • A reliable home office setup with stable internet, given this is a hybrid role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Education, ICT, Content design work, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in curriculum development, content writing, or classroom teaching.
  • Experience in an EdTech or digital content environment is an advantage.
