Video Scriptwriter (Freelance)

Project: SE Ranking YouTube channel (SEO and AI search education for marketers and SEO professionals from in-house teams and agencies)

We are looking for a freelance video scriptwriter to join the production of our YouTube channel. The channel covers SEO, AI search, and marketing workflows, with long-form videos built around real experiments, product use cases, and industry shifts. You will receive a topic brief from the channel manager and own the script from there: research, structure, writing, and full visual directions, all the way to a shoot-ready document. The expected volume is 2-3 scripts per month.

You don’t need to be a YouTube veteran. But you should understand how the platform works, why viewers click, and why they leave. We’ll share our data and playbooks; you bring script craft and the willingness to dig in.

What you’ll do

• Write long-form YouTube scripts (8-15 minutes) from a ready topic brief: hook, structure, segments, and payoff
• Create scripts for YouTube Shorts that promote each long-form video
• Add visual directions to every script: screen recording cues, b-roll ideas, on-screen text, and examples to show at each moment
• Build scripts for retention: strong hooks, open loops, re-hooks, pacing, and clear payoff
• Research topics deeply enough to write with authority: SEO concepts, AI search developments, search industry trends, SEO tools, and real data
• Write in the brand’s voice and keep the channel’s tone consistent
• Iterate quickly: expect 1-2 revision rounds per script with the channel manager
• Adapt product tools and features into viewer-facing benefits

What we’re looking for

• Experience writing scripts for video: at least 1 year of hands-on work with YouTube or similar formats
• Writing samples or a portfolio: published videos are great, but strong scripts in any format work too
• Strong understanding of storytelling structure: setup, tension, payoff, and how to keep a viewer wanting the next line
• Strong English (B2-C1 level) writing that reads the way people actually talk: short sentences, everyday language
• Good knowledge of YouTube mechanics: formats, retention, packaging, audience behavior, and best practices
• Familiarity with SEO or digital marketing
• Ability to follow and adapt to defined editorial guidelines and tone of voice: you’ll be writing inside an established style system
• Ability to think in visuals, not just words: every line should answer “what is on screen right now”
• Comfort with direct feedback and fast turnaround
• Reliability on deadlines: production dates depend on the script being ready
• Experience using AI tools in your workflow: Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini for research, writing, and image generation

Nice to have

• Contributing your own video ideas and angles beyond the provided briefs
• Comfort writing supporting texts (descriptions, titles, thumbnail concepts) when needed
• Hands-on experience with SEO tools (SE Ranking, Ahrefs, Semrush, or similar)
• Experience scripting for B2B SaaS channels
