Freelance Travel Copywriter

We are looking for a freelance travel writer to join us at Dolomite Mountains.

But we need someone who really knows the Dolomites.

For me, this is very important. There is a big difference between researching a place online and actually knowing the mountains, the different valleys, the trails and how everything works here.

We have a lot of knowledge inside the team after all these years, and we are looking for someone who can help us take that knowledge and turn it into really good content for our website, blog and itineraries.

Someone who understands active travel, who has hiked, biked, skied or climbed here, and who can write about these experiences because they actually know them.

The role is freelance and remote, and we would ideally like to find someone we can work with for the long term. We are looking for a native English speaker, preferably US English, with strong travel writing and SEO experience. Knowledge of GEO and AI search is important too.

About the role

Dolomite Mountains is looking for a native English-speaking freelance copywriter, preferably US English, to support our website, blog and travel experience content. This is a flexible, project-based role with a variable workload, suited to someone who works independently and takes ownership of assignments, turning our briefs and experience concepts into engaging, accurate, high-performing travel content.

You will write for an international, high-end audience interested in active, authentic and experience-led travel, across the Dolomites and South Tyrol, Lake Garda, the Italian wine regions and Sardinia.

Most importantly, we want someone with first-hand knowledge of the Dolomites and a genuine understanding of active travel. This is not a generic travel writing role: you should know the mountains, activities and destinations we talk about, and write about them with authenticity and credibility.

What you’ll do

• Write website, blog and travel marketing content in English, from brief to final copy.
• Write complete travel itineraries from scratch, based on our briefs and experience information.
• Turn internal destination and experience knowledge into inspiring, credible content.
• Apply SEO best practices, including keyword research, search intent, content structure, headings, internal linking, and metadata (meta titles and descriptions).
• Apply GEO / AI Search principles to create clear, authoritative content that performs across traditional and AI-driven search.
• Research destinations and travel topics, identifying relevant search opportunities and content angles.
• Review, improve, proofread and copy-edit existing content for relevance, readability and search performance.
• Provide occasional copywriting support to Sales & Operations: client-facing communications, proposals, presentations and experience descriptions.

What we’re looking for

• Native English speaker, preferably US English, with excellent written English and editorial accuracy.
• Proven experience as a copywriter, content or travel writer, ideally in digital marketing, travel or hospitality.
• First-hand knowledge of the Dolomites, with real experience of its trails, valleys, activities and culture, and genuine knowledge of active and adventure travel, including hiking, biking, climbing, via ferrata and skiing.
• Strong command of SEO content writing: search intent, keyword research, on-page SEO and metadata, with familiarity in GEO / AI Search.
• Excellent research, fact-checking, proofreading and copy-editing skills.
• Strong storytelling ability that makes destinations and experiences feel tangible and authentic.
• Ability to work independently, manage deadlines and adapt to a variable workload.
• A portfolio of high-quality English copy, ideally in travel, hospitality, tourism or lifestyle.

Preferred experience

• Experience writing travel itineraries, destination guides and experience-led website content.
• Familiarity with CMS and SEO tools such as Google Search Console, GA4, Semrush or Ahrefs.
• Experience with premium, luxury or high-end travel brands.
