We're heavily favoring people based in the Washington, D.C., area. But if you think you can do it from another location then please make your case. Budget up to $5K/month depending on what you offer.
Farm Journal is looking for a contract journalist/freelancer to report regularly on specific national policy and political developments related to agriculture. This contractor will do original and independently sourced news reports that offer developments and insights you can't get from the wire services. The focus is on policies that have direct economic impact on farmers, ranchers and/or the produce industry.
Coverage areas include but are not limited to:
- Developments and insights into the fate of the next Farm Bill
- Tariff and trade developments
- Agricultural and environmental policy and regulations that have impact on the ag industry
- Actionable and new releases of data and other reports that impact agriculture
- Insights into the people driving policy
- New ideas and bills out of Washington that have the potential to reshape rural America
Contractors will file regular web stories, be expected to record some interviews so they can be used on Farm Journal's broadcast programs (AgDay, AgriTalk and U.S. Farm Report) and the contractors should expect to appear at least weekly on one of Farm Journal's broadcast programs.
Experience covering policy and knowledge of the agriculture sector are required.
