Freelance Guide Writer

Looking for a couple of absolute gear nerd freelancers to take on the following Gear Guide categories for Backpacker. Each category manager will handle both testing logistics (work with PR to ship and track samples to testers and consolidate feedback on durability and performance) and editorial (transform tester feedback into a polished "best-of" guide featuring the year's most noteworthy gear picks).

Specifically seeking expertise in the following:
🎒 Packs: This category manager will specifically test and write for Backpacking Packs, Daypacks, and Ultralight Packs.
⛺ Tents: This category manager will specifically test and write for Tents and Ultralight Tents, and potentially Winter Tents.

We need someone who's in the weeds and in the field, deeply embedded in gear culture, someone who knows all the tech-y jargon our hardcore readers love (but can translate it for a more beginner audience when needed). This position isn't for freelancers who hike a couple of times a year or only car camp—with the number of items we test, it would be much more advantageous to be tackling trails multiple times a week, with a couple of longer treks planned for this summer!
