Freelance Ghostwriter

Wise Ink is currently looking for talented and versatile wordsmiths to join our pool of ghostwriters. Wise Ink works with diverse authors and leaders on a variety of subjects and genres to distill their big ideas into engaging and marketable books. We are especially interested in candidates of marginalized identities who can understand the lived experiences of our authors. 

Ghostwriters will work one-on-one with authors to get their ideas on paper, organize them, and flesh them out into full-length books, usually between 25,000 and 50,000 words. Ideal candidates for this role have the following attributes:

• Agility, speed, and punctuality: We expect our ghostwriters to turn around projects in months, not years, and to hit all their delivery dates. You’ll need to adapt to our author’s often busy schedules and take initiative to make sure deadlines are met. 
• Organizational and problem-solving skills: Our authors have big ideas and need them presented in a clear yet inventive format. Ghostwriters must be able to respond to unique challenges with creative solutions. 
• Talent, knowledge, and experience within our genres: Most, but not all, ghostwriting projects will fall into the categories of self-help, business, or memoir. We expect our ghostwriters to be familiar with the conventions and cliches of these genres to create works that are original but that still fit within their genre.
• Excellent communication and customer-service skills: Our ghostwriters are representatives of Wise Ink and need to have well-developed client-facing skills. Ghostwriters should be personable and patient when working with clients.

Preferred Skills and Experiences

• Minimum of one year book ghostwriting experience
• Exceptional writing, editing, grammar, and spelling
• Experience working with copyeditors
• Thorough knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style
• High level of competency in Microsoft Word and Track Changes
• Ability to work effectively with a highly creative and senior-level clientele
