The ideal candidate has:

✓ A bachelor's degree (or equivalent), or editing qualifications and 3+ years' editing experience
✓ 2+ years' experience editing digital content
✓ Strong developmental editing skills
✓ Experience editing commercially oriented content

Overview

We’re looking to build long-term partnerships with experienced editors who have exceptional developmental editing skills, strong judgment, and a deep understanding of digital, commercially oriented content. 

The Editor role at Eleven is a contractor position requiring roughly 10–15 hours per week to start, with the opportunity to expand to 30–35 hours per week in the long term.

Eleven editors ensure that every piece of content is reader-appropriate, actionable, specific & expert, client-aligned, accurate & substantiated, and logical & coherent — aligning with our high editorial standards and exceeding our clients’ expectations. 

Successful editors will have highly developed writing and communication skills; experience providing thoughtful, actionable feedback that helps writers grow.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Edit content in line with Eleven’s agency-wide editorial standards and each client’s unique preferences, goals, positioning, and expectations. 
  • Offer suggestions to improve clarity, flow, narrative coherence, commercial value, and other key elements of strong content in writers’ drafts.
  • Share thoughtful, actionable feedback with writers via in-line comments, messages, or calls, as appropriate.
  • Provide qualitative assessments on each draft using Eleven’s bespoke Feedback Tool, evaluating content against our six core quality criteria.
  • Meet deadlines consistently
  • Lead 1:1 catch-up calls with new Eleven writers completing Probation.
  • Collaborate with writers, account managers, editorial leadership, and others.
  • Communicate proactively to resolve issues or clarify expectations.

Required skills, experience and qualifications

  • English fluency
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field; or editing qualifications, and 3+ years’ editing experience
  • 2+ years’ experience editing digital content
  • Excellent developmental editing skills (structure, logic, argumentation, clarity, narrative flow)
  • Experience editing across common digital formats: reviews, buying guides, how-to articles, explainers, thought leadership pieces, eBooks, and white papers
  • Ability to adapt tone, detail, and style for different audiences
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to give clear, constructive, and supportive feedback that helps writers improve both immediately and over time
  • Strong writing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Working knowledge of SEO or experience editing SEO-driven content
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented approach to challenges
  • Openness to feedback and willingness to adjust based on guidance
  • Consistently professional, respectful, and collaborative working style
  • Reliable time management 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with online collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Google Workspace)

Desired skills, experience and qualifications

  • Master’s degree 
  • Additional editing/proofreading certifications
  • Experience editing commercial or client-facing content
  • Professional experience in HR, tech, business, finance, psychology, health & wellness, or marketing

Payments

  • Minimum rate of £25/hr (approx. $33/hr)
  • Payments are made on a monthly basis
